"The conference meet will be the

N.C. State, who were ACC
champions last year, are again a
strong contender for the title.
After two meets Combes said,
"They are not doing as well as I
had hoped, but we're not as bad as
I sometimes feared."
"The Georgia meet was close but
shouldn't have been. We didn't
swim well. We had seen the times
of Georgia against Florida and we
knew,we were significantly better.
We went down there after the
North Carolina loss and swam a
little worse than we had in the first
meet," Combes s.Qid.
USC dropped the first meet to
North Carolina 58-53, even though
swimmers like Trond . Williams
recorded impressive times in the
free style.
The USC divers, called by
Combes, "the best in the Con
ference" have collected all 16
possible points in diving competion
this year. "Our divers always do
well," Combes said. "Jack Moffatt

"They should tear the diving up
at the conference meet," Combes
said.
The squad is made up of
swimmers on partial scholarships
though none have been awarded
full grants.
The 21 man team will break for
the Christmas holidays but plan to
return to school a week early to
prepare for the meet at East
Carolina University on January
9th.
"We just hope they can get back
in shape. With swimming you can't
go out and run or go to the local
basketball court, we just hope they
can find places to swim," Combes
said.
The Carolina swimmers have
only three South Carolina residents
with most of the swimmers coming
from Pennsylvania, Virginia, New
Jersey. Washington and Florida.
"South Carolina has very. few
good swimmers because of no-high
school program, there are seven
good prospects this year in South
Carolina though," Combes said.

Opening strong the Horseshoe
bowling team took a first game
lead that they never relinquished
to Sigma Phi Epsilon to win the
Intramural Campus Bowling
Championship.
Horseshoe's Bob Wycolovski
said, "We had them from the firEt
and took a commanding lead of
about 40 pins. By the final game
they had to out bowl each man by
about 20 pins."
Dave Dilks led the In
dependents with a *472 series
'ollowed by team mate Eddie
Withrock who registered a 471
ieries. The Horsehoe racked up a
!274 total to beat the fraternity
team by 78 pins.
Sigma Phi Epsilon captain 4
Chris Martin led his team with a
486 series and maintained his team
could win were there a rematch.
"They had no rules about sub
stitution and one of our guys had to
work. If we had it to do over, we
could win. They are good but I
think we could have won if we had
gotten a few good breaks.
