The girl was chosen "Little Miss USC" during International Week by the student body with penny votes. Twelve dollars a month will be needed to support the girl. Russell House. Science foundation grant A grant of $272.853 from the National Science Foundation has * been donated to support USC's mathematics institutes in secondary education. Dr. W. L. Williams. director of the institutes since they began 10 years ago, said the present grant brings the total amount received for the program to nearly $3 million. The current grant will provide for an eight-week institute next summer for approximately 70 iunior and senior high school teachers and an academic year institute, beginning next Sep tember. for 30 senior high school teachers. All teachers accepted in the program will receive financial support under the grants. Two students charged with larceny and auto breaking around Carolina Coliseum during the homecoming concert Oct. 24 have been tried and sentenced to one year's imprisonment. The sen tences were suspended for two years probation. Another case involves a student who pleaded guilty to possession of marijuanasand other drugs.H-e has been fined $300 and put on probation. The final case under con sideration Wednesday is a student who is charged with stealing items valued at $153 from other students on his hall. The stolen property included two electric radios, one electric portable radio, two electric razors and six books. The Faculty Discipline Com mittee has considered 10 cases this semester involving major disciplinary actions. A student arrested for selling amphetamines to other students and a federal agent was suspended for two. semesters, held in abeyance. One student was found innocent of unauthorized entry into the office of a professor. Two students were suspended from the University for one year, held in abeyance, after admitting taking $15 and $14. Another student who took a book from the Campus Shop was put on probation until the end of the spring semester. One student took a table valued at $80.10 from the Bates House Lounge and sold it for $2.50. He was suspended for one year. "It occurred because people on the Lectures Committee are lazy. They didn't want to do any work. The students have shown in terest in the short course program and the Union isn't doing the work'.' You can whitewash it if you want to," he said.
