Approved for the design study were Finch-Heery--the design segment of Arena Associates--and Wilbur Smith and Associates. Arena Associates designed Atlanta Stadium and the decks added to the football stadiums at the University of Georgia and Georgis Tech, and is designing a deck for the Clemson stadium. Wilbur Smith and Associates is a Columbia-based international traffic consultant and planning firm. A board spokesman siad, "It is obvious that the stadium we have now is inadequate for the student body and the supporting public." --The board also approved a tentative allocations request for the 1970-71 academic year and strongly reaffirmed the Univer sity's need for the East Glenco urban renewal project as orgininally outlined--including Green Street United Methodist Church. 'No details were released of the equest to be presented to the Higher Education Commission next week but it was described as over $20 million. The state's allocation to Carolina this year was $16.3 million.
