BALL'S PILATFORM The following is the platform of presidential candidate M i c h a e I Ball: "Since I am not the typical can didate-not the straight, y o u n g frat or independent who was presi dent of his high school class and worked his way around various of fices learning what one could or could not do, I don't have the fear of demanding the unexpected or 'unobtainable.' "To the inevitable inquiry, 'You don't seriously expect to win, do you?' I can only say I offer the student who is tired of seeing the same people getting elected and doing or rather not doing the same things an alternative. For those who feel student elections are a joke, I am the punchline." KNOBEL'S PIATFORM The following is the platform of presidential candidate Barry Knobel: "As I have continually stressed, student activism, supported by a unified student effort, will be able to realize major gains in the com ing year. The student body presi dent's role is to assume the leader ship for the directions in the ac complishments of student demands. If I am fortunate in this coming election, I wish to instigate the fol lowing programs: 1) Placing the taking of all final examinations on an optional (or voluntary) basis. 2) A curriculum revision pro gram. 3) A student government execu tive reorganization. "I will further attempt to solve or alleviate the already existing problems: 1) Student parking 2) Student t i c k e t distribution tattle i Offices South Carolina Student Legisla ture. lie also served on the Nixon Agnew Student Advisory Board. Kroch - Presi and student seating at all athletic events of the University 3) Consumption of alcoholic bev erages on University property "One must realize that the ma jority of student problems develop during the academic year. These problems must be met and solved quickly and efficiently by the stu dent body president and his staff. 'Promising the world' by an over extension of campaign platform ideas, in order to please every sec tion of student representation, is unwise and extremely unfair to the student. "This coming year will be the 'year of practicality'-the 'year of the student'. Give me that chance to prove it." KROCIIMALNY'S PLATFORM The following is the platform of presidential candidate Mike Kroch malny: "The major responsibility of the president of the student body is im plementing the ideas of the student body; to do this he must have inti. mate knowledge not only of stu (lent ideas, but the administrators he must work with. "I feel that my work with cam pus publications and organizations has given me the necessary knowl. edge of student thoughts and the personalities of the administration to achieve what must be (lone to provide students with a voice in academic and social areas which are so important to them while they are at the University. "I think an effective and active s t u d e n t government can relieve much of the tension on this campus and provide an effective means of dealing with the many problems which face students and citizens in this state. "The first step toward making student government effective is to provide that student senate is a viable institution and to make the best use of presidential appoint ments and the cabinet, choosing people on the basis of ability and interest, not friendship or affilia tion. 15 Sophs Seek 4 Positions Junior class offices to be filled in the upcoming elections are the offices of p)resident, vice pr1esident, secretary and treasurer.
