The Tams will be featured at the Greek Week concert in the Township Auditorium at 8 p.m. The show is open to the student body. Joseph Pope, R o b e r t Smith, Charles Pope and Horace Key are n a t i v e Atlantans and attended Howard H i g h School together. Discovering their mutual love of music, they formed a group that picked up their first professional jobs at $5 per night. This broke down to the munificent sum of a buck and a quarter each. However, talent and audience acceptance soon rocketed them to a spot where they attracted the attention of music man Bill Low ery who signed them to manage ment and recording contracts. The immediate result was "Untie Me," a hit in both the pop and R & B fields. With that behind them, Lowery had no trouble putting them on the ABC label. They came out of their first session with "W h a t Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am) ?", which reached the number one spot in America's charts. "Laugh It Off," "Hey, Girl," "I've Been Hurt," and o t h e r s brought them dates with s u c h headliners as James Brown, Ray Charles and Paul Revere. After the addition of Al Cottle, a Washington, D. C., singer, The Tams continued to build them selves a revue type show, which; now carries 17 performers. The year 1968 rolled around and the boys welcomed it with a ses sion that produced a real giant for them and ABC in "Be Young. Be Foolish, Be Happy," a title that could be autobiographical for this happy-go-lucky group. Their first motion picture ap pearance was in "M o n d o Day tona," in which they were allotted two spots. Tickets for Thursday's s h ow will be sold Monday, Tuesday an Wednesday in the Russell House.
