During the first segment Diet zel lined the various elevens up in the new offensive huddle. Instead of the open "C" used last season the offensive unit will huddle in . closed "0." The quarterback will call the play while kneeling in the center of the huddle. Carolina's head coach then told ) the squad that plays would bc called by name rather than num i, ber this season. Numbers are n much more difficult to keep in h mind in the heat of gridiron bat ii tie. Next in order was the demon stration of the new more open formation which the Gamecocks will use. Three receivers, desig nated "X," "Y," and "Z" will line up in wide positions to open UP the defenses for USC's run ning game. The Gamecocks will probably use the pass more often as an offensive weapon this season. Most of Dietzel's time was spent with the quarterbacks as this position will make or break the '68 Gamecocks. "I think that we can go un defeated on our home court," said McClain. One of the prob lems the team has to face is a number of road games. The clay courts at North Carolina will produce a slower game than the netmen are used to. McClain siad that if Carolina plays its best game and North Carolina plays their best, the Gamecocks should take it. "I feel we have a better team," said McClain. He had the same comments about Friday's op ponent, the Maryland Terrapins. McClain's wife gave birth to a baby girl, Mary Elizabeth, last Wednesday.
