Ou known and accepted ij a million places thro Vandalism Problem Dec lin ing By JOHN DAVID SPADE Staff Writer Student vandalism at Carolina has been declining over the past few years, according to Housing )irector J. A. Barnes. "The damage is not excessive, although it is hard to estimate intentional vandalism. I don't be lieve there is a lot of willful dam age," said Barnes. Director of Men's Residence Halls James P. Cooper said it is difficult to separate the cost of vandalism from carelessness and general maintenance. Barnes said that Carolina's van dalism problem is much less than many other large universities. "We have a good group of men, but with the size of the University, there are bound to be a few bad ones. Most of the students are concerned about their actions." L. Eugene Cooper, dean of men, says there is no particular group responsible for vandalism. The figure for such damage is probably less than 2,000, ap proximated Barnes. "What really concerns me is untidyness. Not o n 1 y does it look had, but it also is not a good health measure. Once or twice a se mester we have to sencl in a crew to clean a BARNES room, and charge the tenant. But most of these matters are taken care of by hull counselors and the )ean of Men," said Barnes. Housing official James P. Cooper reminds students that the dates for registering a room for summer school are May 10 12. A. A.
