Enterta irnwa,s 'Opera': A University 'I' h e a t r e presented John Gay's The leggar's Opera last week-end to a curious Caro lina Community. The production's playbill stated, "The leggar's play is beilg performned in some ob scure English theatre some time in the last 20) years," and that, for the most part, is where it shtoulld have remailned-obscure in Enr land two centuries ago. The play, a farce (indeed), lighted its candles with an up style swiny" of light comedy and flew along at an uproarious pace for about two and one-half hours of grinding merriment and slap stick, pausing briefly for only two short, but welcomed, inter als.
