With all appearances of . sud
den coup d'etat, a determined force
of nearly 200 Palmetto State col
legiates moved into Columbia this
week, taking over the State house
chambers and scheduling new
state elections for Saturday.
Headed by a -1.1-student 1U SC
delegation, the force represented
nearly all South Carolina colleges
and came to the Capitol with plans
for renovating the legislature and
iatroducing leasures to better
South Carolina.
Everything was lawful and per
fectly aboveboard, however, since
the force composed the annual
S. C. State Student Legislature,
made up of "legislators" selected
primaru arotm student senators
on college campuses.
The four-day session offers par
ticipants experience in the practi
cal arts of politics and govern
rment.
It began Wednesday with regis
traition) and comm ittee' meeting'
and will reach its elimax Satur
day with the election of state
officers. USC's Bill Mel )ougal
was aoinaated to run for I icuten
