Welch, Honorary Members Recognized Honorary life memberships were awarded to three friends of the University during a meeting of the Alumni Association on Homecom ing Day. Frank B. Herty of Columbia, Mary C. Oliphant of Greenville, and Dr. Isadore Schayer of Colum bia received the honors in reFogni tion of their long-term association with the University and for sup port of the USC Educational Foun dation. Miss Oliphant is the grand daughter of author William Gil more Simms and an author in her own right. Through her efforts were established the Euphemia McClintock College for Women Scholarship Fund and the Euphe mia McClintock C o l l e g e for Women Professorship. I)r. Schayer was responsible for reorganizing the University in firmary and for obtaining the first permanent physician and trained nurses for the staff. For some years he taught hygiene courses at USC. Tax Facts Open For Discussion The USC Tax Forum for 1966 will meet 7 - 9 p.m. Mondays Nov. 14 - Dec. 19 in the Audio - Visual Materials Library, 916 S. Main Street. Anyone interested in up-to-date tax information, including 1966 revisions and interpretations, can enroll now. Tuition checks of $10 per person should be made payable to 'the USC College of General Studies. The forum is sponsored by the Columbia Chapter of the National Assn. of Accountants and the Col lege of General Studies. The long-planned weekend of ficially began Friday night with a pep rally, the largest ever held at USC, according to chairman Joe Hobson. The Florida State and USC bands played a selection of songs carrying out the "Happiness Is" theme. The crowning of the queen, the most important event of the week end, highlighted the halftime ac tivities. Alumni, returning to the Uni versity for the Homecnming fee Forensi Sponsi Debate teams from more than 50 colleges and universities are visiting the campus this weekend for the 21st Annual Carolina For ensic. Competing in the weekend con test are teams from as far north as New York, as far South as Florida, and as far west as the Mississippi. Debates began Thursday at 7 p.m. with two rounds, comprised of 100 debates. Four rounds are scheduled for Friday, and two rounds will be held Saturday morning. Six judges will select the top four teams, who will compete for the title in the final two rounds Saturday. Trophies will he awarded to the winning team. In case of a tie, both schools will be awarded tro phies. Debates will be held in various locations across the campus. Stu dents are urged to attend.
