F;Lin, PhiSl Epsil aPid SusA n Sreida.Jmith,ioe.t.inZtta; K QUESTION, Mr. President iUESTION: Associated Women Students has provided a iethod of uniting women students on the USC campus. [as a similar form of representative body been contem. lated for men students? First let me say that Joyce Able and the Associated Vomen Students have done an excellent job in setting up a ,orkable system for uniting Carolina's women students. To concrete plans have been made for a similar project in he men's dormitories. However, a study is being conducted y Wes Brunson, president of APO on a Town Students organization. Also, outlines of the proposed dorm govern ient for Columbia Hotel are being coordinated through he Dean of Men's office. Within the next month we plan o have a drop-in at Columbia Hotel for the men living here who are interested in organizing. At this drop-in we vould have the student government officers and existing orm government officers explain the concept of dormi ory governing to the men. We could eventually have an nter-dorm council much like the inter-fraternity council vhich now exists. It would seem to me that this project vill require at least one year to implement. JUESTION: Will students be given class cuts the morning f Homecoming Day in order to see the Homecoming Oarade? This year is somewhat unique in the evolution of the Jniversity in that this may be the last year of afternoon ootball at Carolina, including homecoming. With this hought in mind, the President of the University has de reed that classes will terminate at 10:00 on the day of iomecoming so that all students may view the Hlomecoim nig Parade. ATIESTION: Some 63 students were nominated to run for hree Freshman Senate seats. Should this continue, would ome means of limiting nominations for some officei be easible? First, an excessively high number of candidates has ever been a "problem" at Carolina; unfortunately, just he reverse seems to be the rule. It seems ironic to me that 3 students would run for three non-voting Senate seats i the freshman class while only one person is running for he two available seats on the Academic Responsibility ,ommittee from nursing. How is it that the freshmen can are so much about a small voice, and the upperclassmen an show so much apathy toward an office that has such strong voice in the matter of students' honor responsi ility? The answer seems to lie with the fact that the fresh ien are new, excited about what can be done and willing i do it; they don't know that you aren't supposed to be ble to get things done at Carolina. This freshman "atti ude" is something we need so much more of. There are hings being done for the student body right now by those ,ho won't let the forest hide the trees. So, in answer to his question, (10 not plan to move for limiting the niumber f any candlidates.
