The freshnan law eJass, %hose en rollmenit has increased a I n o s t a hird since last year, totals 208, with he other classes raising the enroll ,nent to 425 law students. This year's freshmen come from 16 colleges and universities, 12 in i. C. and 34 from other states. Be 'ause the University's Law School is the only one in S. C., it is pri marily concerned with the needs of 3. C. residents. Out - of - state students comprise 13.5 per cent of the freshman class. Ro1wrt Figg, Deani of Law School, reel- that tihe law School shoul dlish Paper program which will provide stu :lents an easier method to buy, sell or trade items. The first in a ieries of (lances planned for this year is tentatively set for Oct. 28. The Program C o m m i t t e e is scheduling lectures and art ex hibits which will be held in Mike Johnson Lounge. Also under con ;ideration are an orphans' party mnd serving free doughnuts and Loffee during exam week. .wA.YING S.m i wu FEATURES 1-3-5 7-9 i-Fash' McNAIR IEET THE ~ND IDATES! Figg does feel, however, that some out-of-state stu dents add variety, new ideas and con cepts, and different viewpoints that enrich a class. Because the law school accepts so few non-residents, t h o s e ac cepted must be top students. The average score in the Law School Admissions Test has improved in the past few years. In 1964, the entering freshman class had an average of 460, while last year the average jumped to 494. This year the average score came up one point. More young mnci are emwding into Petigru College because of the small iumbwr of law schools across the nation. The building of such law schools has not kept pace with in creasing number of students. Dean Figg stated that, "80 per cent of S. C.'s leadership and 90 w per cent of the South Carolina Bar si in the future goes through USC's ' law school. Even the lawyers that do not go into public practice are the community leaders." It Sixteen years ago Petigru College S was built to care for 250 young men. i, B% the mid-1970's, the University predicts 1,000 law students will be d enrolled at this University.
