WEEKEND CAMPUS ACTIVITIES Right here on campus, besides offering big dance weekends with big name a r t i s t s, along with Artist Series programs at regular intervals, the Student Union now offers social functions for those "off" weekends. An example was the successful "Turkey Day D a n c e" held the Friday after Thanksgiving in South Cafeteria. The band was just as good as a fraternity party would offer and the location was very convenient. Other possibilities on campus in clude dormitory parties, such as Preston's Christmas Dance held at the American L e g i o n Hall last weekend; productions by the Uni versity Players; basketball games; just sitting and card-playing in Bowl An 8-0 victory for the "Greasy Garnet" team over the "Blacks" launched USC's first annual Garter Bov game Dec. 3. The game featured eight repre sentatives from each of the seven C a r o l i n a sororities. Each team included four members of the sororities. Under the coaching of Carolina football squadmen Mike Fair, Stan Juk, Doug Senter, and J. R. Wil burn, Garnet surged to its victory via a plunge from the three-yard line by fullback Claire (Killer) Terry. Diane (Wadling) Wilson caught the successful two-point conversion pass. Although both teams gained much yardage, Garnet was held scoreless until the last of the third quarter. Half-time activities included a mock Pershing rifle team demon stration and the crowning of the "queen." Marching in "formation" the gunless NROTC mimickers per formed a "new kind of hesitant step." Kappa Sigma contestant Gene (Viola Mae) Todd was crowned "Garter Bowl Queen" by Home coming Queen Joan Bennett. Viola Mae was then treated to a motor cycle ride around the Stadium. Although there were no actual injuries as a result of the game, several Black and Garnet players reported sore muscles and cheer leaders reported to classes Monday with touches of laryngitis. Proceeds from the game go to the Pan-Hellenic Council for use in Greek Week activities. 1r Activities t Students ,the women's dorms and in M lounge; movies, sponsored by the Movie Committee of Student Union; and then there's al,vays the library and the Gamecock Room. IN COLUMBIA, VARIETY The city of Columbia offers a multitude of opportunities for the social-minded student. Town Theatre, only two blocks from c a m p u s, offers serious drama, comedy, and musicals with special prices for students. The Lyric Theatre, Columbia Music Festival, Hadassah Players, and Township Auditorium provide inexpensive, first-class entertain ment of all kinds. Then there are the movies, with Columbia's theaters s h o w i n g a variety of first-runs. So there, independents; there's no excuse. The only problem now is getting a date. But phone num bers are readily available! Columbia's Finest" ...........X. The Cheraw post office was the exchange point for a Duke and a Carolina active of Lambda Chi. Paul and Glen Campbell, Bob Mancini, Joe (Calabrese, et al lured Jim Burke into a car under the pretense of going for a pizza. About 30 miles out of Columbia, Burke got the idea that maybe they weren't exactly going to eat. He triedl everv thing from pleading and logic to attempting to wreck the car. The Duke captive escaped . . . harefooted and shirtless. Burke enjoyed a basketball game amd p)arty in Durham and ret urnedl by buts Sunday. SAWDUST IN OUR SHOES Speaking of practical j'okes, Irving (that same( Irving who incidentally accomplished a possible 4-F status as a result of a fall down the steps to the law library . . . attention, Mr. Meyers!) says he now lives next to the "Sawdust Castle." Daddy Dibble-Wibble didn't exact ly attain the Edlgar Al len Poe "justice with impunity," but he did get his sweet revenge. To quote Bacon: "Revenge is a kind of wild justice: which the more Man's Nature runs to, the more ought Law to weed it out." SARDINES HAVE FUN "Crowded" was definitelv the definition of the Zeta party. We were pleasantly surprised to see Ted D avis, C. 0. 'Warren, Ed Brockington, Larry DJuffie, 1)&wnin Herring.
