The room contains an invaluable map collection comipiled by indus trialist Henry Plimpton Kendall and presented to the University in the 1950's. Especially interesting about the extensive collection is the progress observers can see where the geo graphical mistakes initially made by cartographers had a substantial influence on maps of the North American continent for nearly a century. The earliest maps in the display of over :300 pieces date from 1540. These earliest nmps illustrate the effects on map-making by the three main colonizing powers of that time. Kendall, who was sent to Can den to rejuvenate a mill for his northern company and chose to make his home there, spent years accumulating the collection.
