Fro"s The SIDELINES BY ERNIE TRUBIANO Sports Editor AFTERTHOUGHTS If Doug Senter isn't All-ACC defensively, who is? We challenge the choice of Clemson's Sursavage, a sophomore, over the Marietta, Ga. senior. . . . Others on my All-ACC team include middle guard Dan Legat and Coach-of-the-year Marvin Bass. And from the November 19 issue of the Tiger . . . "The Gamecock offense has shown an incredible ability to move the ball against some of the nation's best defenses. Last week Carolina pushed two touchdowns across the Alabama goal line and seriously threatened a number of other times. Perhaps the secret to this potent explosive offense is Colum bia's answer to Johnny Unitas and Ray Berry-Mike Fair and J. R. Wilburn." . . . Fair and Wilburn combined to virtually rewrite Caro lina's passing and receiving records during the 1965 season. Fair passed South Carolina to the co-championshilp of the Atlantic Coast Conference. He set school records of 89 completions, 175 attempts, and 1,049 yards. Wilburn, signed this week to a pro contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, set season records of 28 receptions, 562 yards; the career reception record of 70, and the one-game mark of nine against Wake Forest. Fair also twice tied the one-game record of 29 individual pass attempts-in the Duke and Maryland games. Maybe the Tiger staff knew what they were talking about. * * * The Sun Bowl game of Texas Western vs. TCU should have no trouble filling the 30,000 capacity of the El Paso stadium. Evidently the officials of the bowl are seeking local rather than national acclaim by picking two Texas teams to appear in a Texas bowl. Reminds us of those Texan jokes.
