I)ear Mon,
Gee, it's good to sit back, take
a smoke, Coke break, and write
you. I've been wanting to answer
your first four letters, but you
know how it is. No, I'm not (lead
-or even sick, for that matter.
I've been fine ever since I recov
ered from that first hangover. . . .
Mom, I've never seen so many
boy-people! And I still can't be
lieve some of those parties. What
I mean is, social life is loads of
fun: everyone is so friendly.
I miss you and Dad terribly,
though, and Sis and Ilateful-I
mean Tommy - and even Ugly.
Ugly's still alive, isn't he? lie's
such an adorable muskrat. I do
hope Tom hasn't devoured him
yet. le's such a terrible cat.
Incidentally, I'm over the first
of the great hour (juizzes. (1)on't
you just love that term?) They

really make you dread the finals.
I laughed all the way through
them; I just couldn't believe they
were for real. But don't worry!
Like I said, social life's great.
And as long as society thrives,
I'll survive! So, it won't be a com
plete loss if I flunk out. . . .
I don't know when I'll get a
chance to come home. There are so
many outside distract - activities,
and they take up so much time.
You understand, don't you? After
all, you told me I should get out
more and experience new things.
Well, don't worry-I'm really put
ting a lot of effort into it! Remind
me to tell you about my first ex
peHince sometime. . . .
11y the way, tell Dad I'll return
his dictionary as soon as I remove
the beer stains.
We have such a lovely library
here. .lmminnim! What good-look

ing boys! Oh, it has a lot of books,
too. . . .
It's good to know you miss me.
I miss all of you, too. But, Mom,
somehow when you're 400 miles
away from home, you can't live off
love alone. So, send money next
time. I think another fifty will
hold me off til' next time. . . .
If you think that's being too un
reasonable, I'll understand. Just
because my roommate gets a hun
dred from her folks.
These parties really drain the
mioneybag. Why, you even have
to bring your own drin-cokes.
And at football games they don't
know what refreshments are. . . .
Mom, you said something about
not being able to call me the other
night? Well, that's because the
phones have all been out of order.
Lots of the phone numbers in the
directory are wrong too. Some of
my friends haven't gotten a call
all year!!!
I don't guess I will he home
until Christmas. You remember I
told you we don't get but one (lay
for ilThanksgiving. Would you
please send me a "care package"
then so I won't get too homesick?
We're not even getting free cuts
for liomecoming and I'll miss the
Homecoming parade. Everybody
says its really good and takes lots
of work.
Cigarettes have gone up again.
Not that I'm smoking, of course,
but everybody keeps asking me
for them. What am I supposed to
do? So. I huy 'em. I'm just heing
sociable, though.
One good thing about it: at
least I'm not contributing to lung
iecancer. No, M'ani! I huy only
cigarettes that are guaranteed
!s'; nicotine free. They also cost
98' more than regular brands.
rell Dad about 'em. They're really
good-so my friends say. . . .
You remember that concert you
wantedi me to go to? Well, it was
really terrific! I'm not kidding
the greatest thing to ever hit
town! The instruments were in
tunle and everything. Sally told
me ait about it.
And, Moni, yes, I am homesick,
a little.

One of these fraternal societies
