DDD's Hold State Meet, Shoe Shine South Carolina ch .pters of Delta Delta Delta met in Charleston last Saturday for a state meeting. Alpha Lambda of the University of South Carolina and Alpha Nu of the College of Charleston par ticipated. Registration was at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 12:30 luncheon at the Fort Sumter Hotel. Mrs. John A. Martin, past national president of Delta Delta Delta, delivered an ad. dress on the "Face of Tri-Delta.' A brief business meeting and reports from chapter and alumnae followed. Skits were presented by both chapters. Other activities of USC's Tri Deltas include a shoe shine last Tuesday to help raise money for the Margaret Ashe Scholarship Fund and plans for a future Apple Polishing Party for professors prior to exams. Plans are also being made to honor graduating seniors of Alpha Lambda at the annual Pansey Breakfast. This breakfast is tra ditionally held at the Columbia Hotel the Sunday before final exiams. The chapter then attends church together. In a bold and brawny and Lord, 1407 Broadway, N A no Sigma Chi will hold their 20th annual Derby Day on Thursday, May 6, on the campus horseshoe. State columnist Bob Talbert will act as master of ceremonies for the program which is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. The judges will consist of Dr. Coolidge, Dr. McConaughy, Dr. Temple, Dr. Neuffer and Prof. Armstrong. Arthur, of the Goody Shoppe, once again will be the official starter. All of the sororities will com pete for trophies in such events as the Miss Venus contest, costume judging, steeplechase, sleeping bag race, wheel race, the flower and key race, and the secret event. Last year, the secret event, "went over with a big splash" as Bob Talbert shares the spotlight and the pool with the coeds. The winner is based on number of total points from all the events. Alpha Delta Pi, the defending champion has captured the award three times and shared it as co winner another time. Chi Omega and Pi Beta Phi have also won four times while Zeta has won three times and Kappa Delta twice with one co-win. Delta Delta Delta and Delta Zeta have both won once. The Sigma Chi Derby Day had its beginning at the University of California in the early 30's. Since that time it has spread throughout the country and is now a feature at over 100 Sigma Chi chapters. The Derby came to the Gamma Nu chapter at Carolina in 1947. It is now in its 20th year. It continues to be one of the most crowd-oleasing events of the year with the program fashioned after the Kentucky Derby. Her interest in the United Na tions and its work for world peace and international develop ment stems from her participa tion in such campus groups as the International Students Club, of which she is secretary, the Inter national Relations Club, World University Service, and the Young Republicans. She served as press attache for the statewide Model U. N. Security Council held at U. S. C. last fall. The contest was sponsored by the State Collegiate Council for the United N a t i o n s under the direction of William F. Mcdlin, state chairman, and Ruth Henderson, a former Caro lina coed who holds a number of state and national beauty titles.
