No Depth Swimmei The South Carolina swimming team, hurting sorely for depth, came up against Davidson of North Carolina in their second test of the current swimming sea son at the University Pool Tues day afternoon. The final totals found a surprisingly strong Davidson team taking home a 57 38 victory. John Parry performed in a win ning manner, taking the 200 free style in a time of 2:05.5. Garnet French took his second straight win of the season in the 200-yard backstroke, topping the school rec ord of 2:27.8 which he had set last Saturday against North Caro lina, with a fine time of 2:27.6. Sophomore Rusty Winter, the only boy off last year's freshman team who is still eligible to compete, won the 200-yard breaststroke in the time of 2:45.9. The Gamecock freestyle relay team also took a first place. Man dell, Foley, French, and Parry combined to swim the distance in 3:55.5. FROSH ROMP The terrific South Carolina freshmen won everything but the pool by the score of 56-27, a score which could have been much higher. At the conclusion of the meet it was discovered that the freshmen had broken every exist ing school record. Jeff Kinkaid, Bill Muller, John Pittington, and Steve Long com bined to cover the 400-yard med ley relay in the great time of 4:03.9. Kinkaid came back several minutes later to take the 600-yard freestyle in the time of 5:32.3.
