Sen101 BY JOHN LOTTICII The two basketball outings this weekend against Virginia and Maryland will be the last home games in the college careers of four fine USC basketball players. They are Ronnie Collins, Billy Yarbrough. Jimmy Collins, and Terry Lucansky. Giving away height and depth to almost every opponent over the last two seasons, they have scrap ped furiously and won several games they had no business win ning. They have been a real credit to Carolina and will not soon be for gotten. RONNIE COLLINS Ronnie was a much - publicized high school scoring star at Winns boro, S. C. before enrolling at Carolina. lie had scholarship offers from quite a few other schools, but. says Ronnie, "I've always wanted to come to Carolina ever since I was a little boy. It's funny, too. The group I ran around with all wanted to go to Clemson. All but me. I have never been sorry either." Ronnie points to defense as the higgest difference between high school and college basketball. "In high school, all the stress is on offense." The first Georgia game of this season stands out in his mind as vividly as any other contest of his career. The Winnsboro flash, in naming this game, points out that "we held them for ten min utes without a field goal. It was (Author of "R and' Barn EVOL SPELLED BAI They met. His heart leapt. Collins, a sure-fire candidate for all-ACC laurels, would like to go to law school, but would also like to continue in sports somehow. In conclusion, Ronnie remarked, "A lot of people say I shouldn't have come here, but I'm glad I did. I haven't regretted it a bit." BILL YARBROUGII Bill Yarbrough Is a state prod uct of Charleston High School, whose basketball team lost a total of only three games over the two season span of Bill's .junior and senior years. Like Ronnie Collins, Yarbrough had scholarship offers from other colleges, including a golf offer from Furman. He chose Carolina because he wanted to play basket ball in the ACC. Bill joins the other seniors in pointing to defense as the most significant adjustment to make in the elevation from high school to college ball. "In college, you have .o shoot more quickly, because the teams play defense much better." Asked what has been his most memorable game, the lean Charles tonian goes back to the f i n a l lash with Clemson during his sophomore year. Billy recalls, "I hadn't done 'fid die' all year. But Coach Stevens let me play almost the whole game, and I scored 13 points." Yarbrough names North Caro lina's All - American candidate Billy Cunningham as the toughest man he has ever played against. "Ife can make any kind of shot.
