Losin' BY DICK BIGGS A Sports Writer With their wings still saturated from the ebullient Tulane Green Wave, Carolina's "Fightin' Game cocks" travel to Memphis, Tennes see, this weekend to do battle with the undefeated, once tied Tigers of Memphis State. Compiling a record of 6-0-1 this season, Head Coach Billy "Spook" Murphy has in State one of the most underrated elevens in college football. Only Ole Miss has blem hed the Tiger record, and it is ith no embarrassment, for the game ended 0-0 against an Ole Miss team rated No. 8 in the nation currently. Aside from this tie, State has beaten a highly ranked Miss. Now 3-0-1, with consecutive vic tories over Gorden Military Col lege, N. C. S t a t e, and Wake Forest, the Biddies will have their ,rst undefeated season if they win over the Bullpups. FIRST BLEMISH Concerning the tie with Clemson, Coach Pitts said the Cubs, "were the only team we've played that was nearly as strong as us and it took the players a half to realize It." The Biddies were behind 7-0 at halftime but behind the running of Cole and Christy managed to fight back and grab the lead by three points with five minutes re maining in the game. Clemson's Don B a r f i e l d then knotted the contest at 10-10 on a field goal with 15 seconds remain ing. CASENELLI LEADS TIGERS The "Blue and Gray" has one of the finest backs in the nation. He is Dave Casenelli, a 5-9, 200-pound senior from West Virginia. Dave is presently tied for first place in rushing throughout the country. Possessing good balance and amazing drive, Casenelli spear heads the Tiger offensive attack along with quarterback Russell Vollmer. Vollmer has been re ported to have run the 100 in 9.7, so it is evident that Carolina will have to contain the speed Vollmer and the driving Casenelli in order to merit victory. The Tigers have one of the better ground attacks in the nation. SUPPORT (?) Reading this column thus far vould depress anyone! But for xamecock followers, this isn't a iew experience. All season long he central theme of Gamecock upport (?) has been enthusiasm - then doubt, and finally depress nent vhen the game had ended. Granted this writer hasn't been mpressed with Carolina's overall erformance (1-5-1) either, but ,his doesn't justify harsh criticism >r infidelity on my part (or any me else's).
