Douglas, a new mem ber of the International Studies faculty at USC, is author of an article in the English - language "Korea Journal," published in SeouL. Douglas' article, entitled "The Rol, of Political Parties," was written during a 3-year stay In Korea as a Fulbright lecturer in political science. "The role of political parties in modernization (of a country) is crucial, since they dominate the political structure, which at pres ent is usually the leading sector in modernization," Douglas writes. "To lead the modernization proc ess, the parties must provide an ideology for the people' mobilize the people to support change and participate in modernization proj ects, and direct the people as they c ha n ge their ways, save rather than spend, and work where they are needed." Douglas earned the bachelor's degree at the University of Wash ington in Seattle, and the master's degree at Johns Hopkins Univer sity. IFC, Red To Start I The Inter - Fraternity Council sponsored blood drive will be paid a two-day visit November 5 and 6 by the Red Cross Bloodmobile. A trophy will be awarded to the campus organization having the largest percentage of blood donors from its membership, and each student will receive a credit card which will entitle his entire family to any blood they might need with out obligation of replacement. Blood can be donated from 3 to 9 p.m. in Russell House Audi torium on both days, Tuesday b and Wednesday 6. One year ago to the week stu dents set an all-time high record by donating over 300 pints of blood. Phi Delta Beta won the '62 award with seven times the num ber of their own fraternity giving blood. ATO led with 183 pints but Phi Delta won out in percentage. Student Martin Duszynksi gave his eighth pint and received a card which entitled him and his family to blood when needed for life. Navy and A i r Force ROTC placed in last year's drive; Navy winning in percentage and the Air Force compiling 174 donations. Of the 15 beds set up in Russell House, none were empty for more than a minute during the entire seven - hour drive. Five registered nurses and 22 volunteers assisted Drs. W. A. Hart and Robert Mc Nulty, University physician. For the donors the work was not all in vain. Soft drinks and cookies were given to each person who gave blood, and a free meal in the Russell House was provided for all persons working on the blood drive, courtesy of Slater director George Troup. He re ceived his A.B. in 1935 and L.L.B. degree in 1937 from U.S.C. He earned his Doctorate of Judicial Science at Harvard in 1956. He began general law practice in 1937, and served with the U. S. Army from 1942-46. In 1949, he was part time instructor of law at Carolina, shortly thereafter he became a full associate professor of law. Harp, Jr., Commander of Shaw Air Force Base, spoke on the Air Force as a way of life and the opportunities it offers to young men. Colonel Harp has had a varied and colorful career since 1941 when he served in the RCAF as a 'flying sergeant." Rogers Jr. of USC has received an Award of Merit from the American Assn. for State and Local History. Dr. Rogers is a member of the USC history faculty, and the book was published and distributed by the University of South Carolina Press.
