Disappear

Strange things have been hap
pening in the Life Science building.
To begin with, about three weeks
ago the building became infested
with mosquitoes. Since they were
not bred in any of the laboratories
or anywhere else on campus, no
one knows where they came from.
For two weeks the insects re
mained in the building and bit stu
dents and professors alike. Now
they have all disappeared and
biology and pharmacy students can
go to class without spraying them
selves with insect repellent first.
S h o r t 1 y after the mosquitoes
vanished 24 partly - cut-up mud
puppies disappeared also. T h e y
were used by one of the anatomy
labs and were valued at about $66.
For a day or so it was a mystery
as to just where they went or
who w o u 1 d want the partially
disected amphibians which reeked
of formaldehyde. Then it was dis
covered that they were put aside
as garbage by mistake and con
sequently thrown away.
Fortunately, or unfortunately -
depending on whose viewpoint is
taken - there wvere enough extra
mnudpuppies so that the anatomy
elass could continue its laboratory

fication Ordinance was passed in
South Carolina in 1832; Lincoln
made his Gettysburg Address in
1863. Boston burned, Libson was
destroyed by an earthquake. Edi
son announced the invention of the
phonograph. Byrd r e a c h e d the
South Pole. Nellie Ross was elected
first woman governor, in Wyom
ing, 1924. On the tenth we can
celebrate the founding of the U. S.
Marine Corps. Congress met for
the first time in 1800.
A Busy Month
This is the month in which foot
ball makes its final bow - let's
hope it's better than its first one
here. We play Clemson soon. We
also get our first holidays on the
28th, 29th and 30th. A book listing
important dates for the "consci
entious person who only drinks on
holidays" has a holiday listed for
every day of the year, and some
occurring in November i n c l u d e
King Kong's Fourth Edict, Per
oxide Your Mustache Day, and
Toad Hall's Doorsill Painting.
