Probably the most under-pub
licized, but overworked group of
athletes on campus is the U.S.C. hi
swimming team. The past three r
years have not been fruitful for r
this sport at Carolina, and as a e
result the efforts of a few dedicated
individuals have been overlooked. s
The Gamecocks have not won a r
meet since 1960 and even then the c
team reconi was only 2-8. This poor s,

Opposition
Thus far this season the opposi

the Gamecocks. In many meets th
opposition only swam one man ii

the score down.
Why we cannot produce a large
group to represent U.S.C. in swim

in which to train and the seatinj
for spectator attendance is probabl:
the best in the Conference.

The field events will be woefu

Lower South Dormitory swept
first place recently in the Women's
A t h 1 e t i c Association basketball
tournament. The girls from Lower
South now have another first to add
to their first in the bridge tourna
ment.
The final game was held in the
Field House. Lower South and its
big basketball rival - Upper South
-- battled it out in a very seriously
fought game. Both teams- showed
fine spirit and athletic poise in not
relaxing for one minute of this ex
citing contest. Tension broke in the
final minutes as Lower South pulled
it out of the fire with an excellent
display of teamwork.
A surprising team from McClin

the final standings.
Helen Zimmerman was h i g h
scorer of the tournament as she
blistered the net with a game high
of 26 points.
