According to the make-up ex perts at a leading beauty house, you are wise if thrice your eyes are in a different guise. The new ideas on eye make-up involve a three-eyed change-about - with a completely different looking pair for (1) daytime (2) small evening affairs, and (3) big evening galas. (1) Your daytime eyes, which look at such things as buses, sub ways, offices, kindergartens, and shopping c e n t e r s, needn't be slighted in favor of more glamor ous occasions. But daytime eye make-up is the most subtle eye art of all. Beware, say Cutex beauty experts, of these glaring mistakes: overuse of mascara, heavy lid-lining, and rigid black "beetling" brows. The barely-open morning eye needs a treat - perhaps a sooth ing touch of eye-drops followed by a dash of facial cream around the lids and eyebrows. Next, pencil in your brows with small sketchy strokes (not one solid line) and lightly brush over them with your iinger. Time may be a premium at this hour, but at least make a note of whether or not your eyebrows are ready for a new shaping - it's easier if you don't put it off too long. A fine line of eye-pencil directly above the upper lashes gives your eyes emphasis without making chem too owlish for the early morning sun. For best results place your mirror in a corner of the room where the sun is brightest or invest in a small mirror which suspends itself on your shoulder and leaves both hands free. (2) For "small evenings"-the movies, informal dinner at a iriend's house, the P. T. A. meet ng, your night school or hobby club, the Y. W. C. A., a casual date - anywhere you wear a street-length dress - eyes need more emphasis. Overhead lights such as found in school rooms or conference halls, often make eyes seem tired, cavernous, dull. Make brows more definite, not forgetting chat the part of them closest to your nose often extends slightly below the eye ridge - penciling this curve gives a lovely look of depth and contrast. Mascara ap plied to the upper lashes is a must - and eye-liner you will surely want to re-apply. Guide yourself by a strong artificial light over your dressing table. (3) For big evening galas - a ball, an opening night, an "affair of the year" on any occasion where you wear either a long or short evening dress - grab your palette of eye make-up and give yourself time to create a work of art. One of the foremost authorities in the field, Oleg Cassini, has created a complete wardrobe of eye make-up colors in his role of fashion designer and consultant for Cutex products. Called "Eyes by Cutex," he has designed five new eye shadow preparations, six basic shades of eye shadow stick, a pressed powder eye shadow for a "velvety-like" finish, cream eye shadow, lotion eye shadow, matte eye shadow stick, a variety of new eye pencils, automatic mascara with a new emollient to help keep lids soft and supple. Officers and their dates are: Pi you wish your eyes to appear wider, slanted, further apart, or deeper set. To bring very deeply set eyes "forward": Spread pale foundation cream all around the eye socket in a circle, blend carefully. Cover with a thin film of your usual make-up. This also helps in dis guising dark circles beneath the eye. Then apply eye shadow to outer area of the lids only. To make eyes appear wider: Put mascara on upper and lower eye lids. Carefully powder. Then give them another coat. Shorten line of eyebrows slightly by plucking those nearest nose. To recess prominent eyes: Use eye-shadow near the upper lashes experimenting with several colors to give the effect of deep-setted ness. Also try shaping your eye brows in a straight, squared-off fashion instead of the conventional arch. To make eyes appear slightly slanted: Bring eye-shadow out to The that] to be leade Alme torn additi engin powe The c is ex; electr Jf yo1 apprc To he? gree? Women have used tweezers and mascara long before Cleopatra. Some of these eye-beauty imple ments have been found which were made more than 5,000 years ago. We still use some of the lessons of yesteryear, although modern cosmetics have done away with many of the hardships of the past. Elizabethan women rubbed their eyebrows with ripe elderberries, cork, cloves burnt in a candle or the black of Frankincense and mastic. Home products gave to expensive preparations by the lat ter 19th century, but these were available only to the rich in Paris. Even in this century the ancient Egyptian secret of mixing scented oil with powdered chalk was used by many women who prepared it in their homes. For women may turn men's heads - but not with out batting an eyelash. AT PRATT YOUR EYES C UIT YOUR FEET I ;1amour and excitement of space ag 'arsightedness must be coupled wit] attained.
