Having been born and raise in Columbia, Jimmy went t Dreher High School, and cam straight to Carolina from ther( Once having arrived here, h pledged Sigma Nu, entered whole heartedly into campus affairs. Jimmy's big interest at thi moment is getting Russell electe to the governorship. He has an other interest, that has nothing t do with politics, and is at Lime stone College. After school, Jimmy plans t dabble in politics himself, an who knows, maybe someday h will be running for governor. Among Jimmy's other activitie are the Student Senate, which h thinks should be given mor power, and Orientation Weel Jimmy believes that a full scal program should be instituted fo the latter, and made compulsor for all incoming freshmen. Chairman of May Day Jimmy is a member of Kapp Sigma Kappa, and present chaii man of May Day. He is Presider Pro Tem of the South Carolin State Student Legislature, an Chairman of the U. S. It was on this trip that Jimmy and some of his fraternity broth ers introduced the twist to Nas - sau. As a matter of fact, they entertained at a night club one night. D : e e e r t d - Jimmy ' . Jimmy's favorite sport is horse back riding. He likes football too, . but only as a spectator sport. "But Ma. I Only Hung Him" Have you heard about the time that Jimmy got hung, in the flesh, not in effigy. When he was small, he and his sister, Beverly, I and the little boy across the street t (who shall remains nameless-be cause we don't know his name) were playing cowboys and Indians. Well, the game didn't seem au thentic enough so Beverly and the little neighbor boy decided to hang Jiminy. They did, and "it didn't feel too good. I was hung long enough to turn blue and pass out. Mother came out and cut me dowvn." A fewv of the neighbors had apoplexy, but Jimmy was not hurt. He still speaks to his sis ter, but the little boy across the street moved away. "I think that the Univer- ti a sity could do without so much red s( tape; for example it takes ten n orders to get one work order out. t I also believe that the Student nr Senate should have more power." p As for class attendance, "I don't c( think that compulsory attendance is necessary after the freshman year. If a student can do the ] work and make d,-cent grades 1 without attending lectures then I f, think that attendance should not li be compulsory. But, I think that n it should be for the freshman s year. It always takes freshmen a while to get adjusted, and if i they didn't have to go to class I they just might take too long N to become adjusted to the ways e of college life." Summer Jobs and Family ti Among Jimmy's summer jobs o have been working for the Ameri- o can Legion at their State Head quarters. When asked what he did o Jimmy replied, "That's very in- a teresting.
