(St Euphradian To Hold In On Tuesday night, February 6, the Euphradian Society, oldest literary society in America, will hold its 308th impeachment of the incoming president. At the beginning of each semes ter, Euphradian impeaches its newly elected president. On trial Tuesday night will be Jimmy Mann, this semester's president. Elder Statesman Bill Castine, immediate past president, will par ticipate in the proceedings along with the principals for the defense and the prosecution. Workers are needed to put finishing touches on the "Gar net and Black" before it goes to press. Convo, During Expansion Continues On Campus Despite some delays due to weather conditions, construction of new buildings at Carolina is con tinuing at a pace which should have all of them ready for occu pancy next fall. The addition to the College of Engineering, which extends the building to encompass the entire south side of the block between Sumter and Main streets, has been completed and accepted from the contractor. The addition includes a large classroom, laboratories and faculty offices. Razing of Steward's Hall, ad joining the College of Engineering, is virtually complete and construc tion will start in about two weeks on another small addition which will house additional offices for civil and electrical engineering fac ulty, a 150-seat lecture hall, and a meeting room for the student engineering society. The 10-story women's residence hall at Pickens and Devine streets, which will be a major feature of the Columbia skyline, is rising steadily. The sixth floor is now being poured, and the general con tractor and sub-contractors are "hard at work and making good progress," said Dr. W. H. Patter son, dean of the university, who is in overall charge of new construe tion activities. The new dual unit of seven-story 1 "veil block" men's residence halls I is progressing approximately on schedule. The roof of one of the units was poured about a week ago, and the second unit is now about three floors high. The third-and highest-floor of the Life Sciences building is now being poured. Pouring is nearly complete of the second floor of a five-story housing unit for married students in University Terrace. A small building to house a neu tron generator for nuclear research in the Department of Physics is virtually complete. Dr. Patterson said bids will be opened Feb. 20 for an addition to Currell College which will provide additional classroom space, fac ulty offices, and other needed ac commodations. He is the author of "The Law and Working of the Constitution, 1660 1914" and "The Reign of George III."f In the spring semester, Prof. Watson will teach courses in "The European Inheritance: 19th and 20th Centuries," and "Studies in British History Since 1750." While at the University, he is scheduled to speak at the annual meeting of the Mississippi Valley Historical Assn. and the Confer ence on Early American History.
