Ir Men Give Their Opi e Magazine If you want to be popular witl men, the Ladies' Home Journal says, you are going to have tc learn to like them. Probably you already do, but it' surprising how dense men can bI it understanding that they are ap preciated. You must find out how to ge1 the message of your niceness an( interest across to them, that's what The December Journal has drawr up a list of six easy rules, com piled from interviews with thi subjects themselves. Here are th4 gleanings. The human animal is the onil one with smile muscles, a fact man people have thought carried with i an overtone of personal responsi bility. Since they smile frequently you will have to, too, or expect t< be considered a sourpuss. Your eyes are your most ex pressive feature, so you can best show your interest in what he is saying by giving him the full homage of your gaze. Rapt Attention Men prefer this sort of rapt at tention to a verbal reply any day. Remember Garbo and how little she had to say, even in the subtitles; yet after a typical Garbo t6te-h te-te with the leading man, one felt that a tremendous communication had taken place. Never let your glance wander to faraway objects while he is talk ing. As a matter of fact, a touch of myopia has turned many a merely pretty girl into a sought after belle. This is a good rule for several reasons: he will enjoy the conver sation, there is very little work re quired on your part and what his talk reveals will help you to de cide whether or not you want to ie popular with him. Nine times out of nine the an swer to this last is "yes." Then, from the bit of autobiography he has given you, you are now ready to choose your "delayed reaction' gambit. Another fortunate offshoot of the getting-him-to-talk rule is that it presents you with a clearer pic ture of his tastes. After all, a woman is many different people. She may as well bring into focus that aspect of her personality most likely to enchant. You're Glad To See Iim You might think that any man who had been smiled at, gazed at and listened to skillfully would know he was liked; but as wc pointed out earlier, men are fan t stic. Forget Yourself Besides, catty comments some times have a ruinous side effect. They make the woman attacked appear helpless, in need of a champion. Perhaps the very champion who was, a moment ago. at your side.
