Trite Regulations Coeds E For nine months out of the year dormitories are home-sweet. home for coeds on campus. Man3 coeds who live at home expres a desire to live in the dorm. But we ask you, is it worth all the minor inconveniences? A hearty "yes"p is exclaimed, until thi house mother refuses to open the door to let you in, when the cloe is hitting 12 on the button I Whal does she do insbead-ehe take her time lowering the window: in the lobby and finally amble over to the door, takes forevel finding the right key on th ring, and finally opens the do: with the clever comment, "you'rs late." If you think that is injustio try coming in on time, only tb find your card missing from th file. The pronouncement is thei restriction, because you didn' sign your card on time. Oh frus tration!I These are only minor annoy anoes compared to the struggle to receive or place phone calli after 11 p.m. There !Is a ruli that no phone calls may be ac cepted or placed after 11, anm wrath will fall upon you 'if you'r caught v'iolating this neceseara rule. It seems that placing a cal in a closed booth after 11 p.m will disturb the girls who ari chatting and romping aroun from room to room, making theia nightly visits. Another major problem, whle'l faces house mothers, is the posi tions in which girls study. In stead of sitting up straight witi both feet flat on the floor, mos1 girls like to strike a comfortablh position, while digging out knowl. edge from books and notes. Bui t h I s isn't proper or lady-like Many girls have been repri. manded for crossing their legi over chairs or tables. Aren't wi uncouth? And then there is the probleir of studying or getting a little rest, when there Is to be an of. filal Inspection of the dormi. tories at 10 am. All. girls In the dorm must be properly dremsd and prepared to receive the guts. During these inspections, it is also improper to operate the washing machine-someone migt see you doing a little worl After all we aren't here to study or to keep our clothes in good con dition. The important part of dorm life is to entertain out siders, who wander through periodically. Why the lobby is "off-limits" for bermudas is still a mystery to us. Girls are allowed to wear them in the sorority rooms, but the lobby rule remains a puzzle. Would ithe house mothers have us go back to "hobble" skirts and bustles? The house mothers look ask ance upon any coed receving a visitor in the lobby after 10:30, in fact, they positively forbid it. Do we turn into something loath some that must be hidden away at 10:30 each night? Rho chapter of Caro lina will play bost to 'Beta Pi chapter of Presbyterian College, Delta chapter of Wofford Col lege, Iota chapter of Furman University, and Sigma chapber of Davidson College. A party tonight at the Leming ton Armory, with mulic fur nished by "The Hearts," will mark the beginning of the week end. At 1 p.m. tomorrow KA's and dates will gather in appropriate old South attire on the Horse shoe, here at Carolina, .for a flag-raising ceremony and lawn party. Following this will be the march to the State House for the a n n u a 1 Seoession Ceremony. Then, the group will move to the Jeffereon Hotel to celebrate seces sion with a Mint Julep Party. Again "The Hearts" will provide the music. Tomorrow night the Old South Ball will be the scene of modern southern ladies and gentlemen, having a gay time In a tradi tionally old southern style. Tony Torre and his orchestra will pro vide the music. Highlighting the evening will be the selection of a Kappa Al pha Rose from the five girls sponsored by each chapter partici pating in the activities. Another feature of the dance will be the shave-off contest, sponsored by Remington Rand. Contestants with comparable beards will represent each chap ter to see who can shave the fastest with a new Remington Roll-A-Matic Adjustable Shaver. Dorm Gr unwritben rules in the girls' dormitories. There are many more, which coeds can relate to you. An example of some such rule might. be the once-over on your dress, as you sign to go out. This is to see if it passes the rigid unwritten dress rules set up by individual house mothers. But all in all dorm life is worth these minor annoyances, until you get "slapped in the face" with one of them, when you are calmly minding your own business. When you need to study with a friend, calling out questions for a quiz or final, it's almost im possible to find a place, where you will not disturb someone. It's late at night and the study is full; roommates are asleep. Ah, the ironiing room is the perfect place, and no one will he dis turbed. After settling down com fortably, the house mother spots you-"don't you know you can't I ,1 da orso daylefe co fort specta a to turn in. you drive, come the smart di route. It must be remembered that any small, minute action in the dormritory will have a rule to cut it out. So don't try to mind your own business, there is someone watching over you.
