Sev. eral hermits in Sims dared t put those notices on their doors, "Nobody Lives Here, So Don't Visit," "Quarantined," and "'ShhI Deep Concentration Going or Within." Some people just aren't gre. garious (whatever that means), "Our suitemates next door are studying and may get mad if you bother them - but pleasc don't poke your head in thiE room and ask if you should bother them, because we get MAD." That was one friendl) note of warning. Caffeine is one of the mustF for late hour studying, and if you are lucky enough to have a coffee pot during this gruelling quiz period it is only natural for your neighbor to borrow from you. Why should you mind lend ing the sugar, pream, coffee, and pot? Well two girls came up with this tale of woe: "TO WHOM IT MAY CON CERN: (and anyone else who iq nosy enough to read this). The occupants of this room, in keep ing with their charitable, friendly, loving, considerate, and self-sac rificing nature, have refrained from locking this door (as some people do) so that their suite mates might have access to the coffee making apparatus. I think it would be better if it stayed away from religious views." LEWIS BURGER, also a fresh man, expresses his feelings: "I like 'Gort.' If he were ivy league, he would be my idol. "The person who writes the cartoon well understands the type of humor that today's college stu dent appreciates. "In my opinion, 'Gort' should stay in "The Gamecock" as long as it does not become more ex treme. By this I mean that some of the jokes that mildly satirize religion should be carefully scrut inized before being printed in the paper. "By reading 'Gort' my vocabu lary has been greatly enriched by the introduction of such words as blotch, splootch, and **!!??. "As long as no one is offended by the 'cool cave man,' I think that he should keep 'cremating beavers in the beginning.'" BILLY SHIRLEY, a freshman, feels: " 'Gort' is like many U. S. C. students. Regardless of what is done, someone is always there to criticize." JOHN WYNDHAM, a sopho more, answers: "There seems to be some con troversy around the c a m p u s about the religious nature of a few of the 'Gort' strips. I don't think any of them yet have been irreverent or extreme. "I like 'Gort's' type of humor, and believe it's a giod way to emphasize the manner in which so many of our customs and traditions have b e e n handed down to us. 'Gort' contains more truth along with his antics than many of us realize. "I think it's a good idea to mix a little humor in with almost everything, e v e n our religion. I'm in favor of continuing 'Gort' and hope he becomes a permanent fixture in 'The Gamecock.'" GEORGE MOSELEY, a junior, gives this opinion as his answer: "The 'Gort' cartoons are funny, and the caveman characters are excellent material for a weekly cartoon strip. Most of us realize that these cartoons are written and drawn to resemble modern man in speech and actions. The caveman idea is perfect for ex pressing modern man. "The theme of the past three, however, has been a bit too sacri legious. In my way of thinking, "The Bible" is not something that should be made fun of. I'm sure that the cartoonist could use themes of a different nature (perhaps like the first ones we read) and continue to draw a lot of laughs. He will probably also draw a lot less criticism."~ Center Sponsors Nurses' Contest On Friday 18 at 8 p.m. Page's Uniform Center of Columbia is sponsoring a "Miss Student Nurse Contest" in the main ball room of the Wade Hampton Ho tel.
