In Final Fr(
As a closing note to the current
edition of the University's fresh
man football season, Carolina's
Biddies rallied to down the Wake
Forest freshmen, 18-6, Friday
night in Columbia. It was the final
tilt of a winning season for Coach
Jesse Berry and his troops, as
they walked off the field with a
8-2 overall mark.
Quarterback Tommy Pilcher and
fullback Carl Huggins led the Car
olina running attack and, between
themselves, ground out 210 of the
Biddies' 329 total yards rushing.
Following a scoreless first period,
Pilcher guided his team downfield
to the Wake Forest 11 in the sec
ond quarter before Huggins hit
off right tackle for the score from
this point. ThQ try for extra points
failed,. as did the two other at
tempts later in the game.

Preston and Tenement Six meet
today in a battle of unbeatens, an
important Independent League
football game. Each team won two
games this season. Next Tuesday,
Sigma Chi tackles SAE in another
clash of unbeatens. The two teams
currently tied for the top spot in
Fraternity League. Two with four
victories and no losses.
The big game this next week
will be the SAE--Sig Chi game.
Both teams are undefeated.

purchased for about two dollars
which illustrates the use of the
call. Calls are sold in two styles,
the type you blow and another that
will produce the sounds of a feed
ing mallard simply by shaking it.
Duck hunters no longer have to
nearly freeze to death while hunt
ing. Clothes may now be purchased
to keel) the hunter warm under any
conditions. Every piece of clothing
from the hat to the boot may be
bought in an insulated material.
The cost of a complete outfit, in
cluding hat, coat, pants, gloves,
and boots will cost around
$40.00.
The Wildlife Service says that
this will be a poor season for
ducks. I believe that everyone will
enjoy themselves since there has
been so many improvements in the
hunting gear and clothes.

"The Carolina varsity basket
ball squad has been concentrating
chiefly on defensive patterns this
week," according to Coach Bob
Stevens.
Since opening practice sessions
on October 15 the players have
been ironing out offensive prob
lems, and have now got them down
pat for the most part. While cen
tering their practice periods around
defense lately, the offensive plays
are being woven into the picture
in order to master both at the same
time. The mistakes now being made
are basic ones that can be over
come with practice.
Coach Pleased
The hard-working head mentor
also reports no injuries of any
consequence, and .is well pleased
with the way the players are
responding to the strenuous condi
tioning program. The team is
working out on Davis Field part
of the time, but the program also
includes a good deal of "Skull
Practice" and work-outs in the
gym. These sessions have improved
the players' stamina and their po
tentials.
Coach Stevens has been pleased
so far with the spirit of the en
tire team. -The players are taking
an active interest in scrimmage,
practice, and in "bull sessions" with
the coaches and other cagers.
Through this uplift in spirit, the
squad works well as a unit, there
by improving the team's strength.
Students Interested
Carolina students, too, have de
veloped a keen interpst in the
workings of the team and have
attended practices and scrimmages
regularly, much to the approval
of the entire coaefiing staff. This
school spirit is indicative of com
ing support of the freshman and
varsity teams as the season rolls
around.
All students are invited to at
tend the practices at any time, as
well as the varsity-freshman scrim
mage tomorrow morning in the
gymnasiuni.
South Carolina fullback P h i I
Lavoie is just one touchdown away
from the school one-season scoring
record of 157 points set by Ed
Boineau in 1929. Lavoie has scored
52 points on seven touchdowns and
five two-point conversions.
