Corbet ELLISON ANNE CARRIBEE ... for Bob Whhiujr* Delta Sigs - fold Annual Rose Dance Beta Gamma, University chap ter of Delta Sigma Pi, interna tional business fraternity, held its 29th annual Rose Dance re cently in the Jefferson Hotel Ballroom. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the tradi tional bouquet of roses to Mrs. Ken Keels of Columbia, this year's Rose Queen. Decorations for the ballroom were arranged in a rose theme by wives of chapter members, and supplied through the cour tesy of Belk's Department Store. Initiation Delta Sigma Pi announces the initiation of its new members, Lamar Bell, Phin Free, Ronald Hudson, Henry E. Huggins, Arthus McNulty, George B. Rush, Richard M. Waldrep, Robert Washnok, Hugh Wessin ger and Charles M. Yates. After the initiation a banquet was held in honor of the new members. Monroe ~Landreth, Jr., regional director from Char lotte, N. C., was present for the ceremony and to speak to the new members. Other guests in cluded W. Elbert Jones, Robert King, and Bill Bowen. Beta Gamma Chapter also Ini tiated Walt Woods for the Uni versity of Cincinnati. Mr. Woods is now stationed at Fort Jack son. Mr. Landreth, as guest host of the Beta Gamma Chapter, dis~ cussed the forthcoming regional convention which will be held in Columbia on Oct. 30 through Nov. 1. This will be the first time that the regional convention has been held in South Carolina. Bowen, director of USC alumni activities. The New York meeting will be under the direction of Wil liam J. Thomas, James H. Black, and Victor E. Barrett, Univer sity alumni now living in New York. Distinguished guests at the meeting will include Dr. Robert L. Sumwalt, acting president of the University; Warren Giese, head football coach; Roger White, executive secretary of the Gamecock Club; and Alumni Secretary Bowen. All University alumni in the New York area and their wives or husbands have been invited to the meeting. - On the agenda will be a dis cussion of plans to be made in connection with the USC-Army football game at. West Point next fall. The New York Alumni meeting is an annual affair. Chi Psi Is Recognized For Grades The Carolina chapter of the Chi Psi social fraternity was re cently awarded the nationaj Goodbody Trophy as the chapter with the highest scholastic aver age in the nation. This trophy is awarded each year by Chi Psi fraternity to the Alpha having the highest scholastic average. The award, made for the school year 1956-57, was recently pre sented to the chapter by Mr. H. Seger Slifer, national secretary of Chi Psi. A letter was also read to the members from Mr. George Bargh, national scholar ship director. The rotating trophy, an adap tion in bronze of Rodin's Thinker, was presented in 1949 by John L. Gbodbody.
