'They travel a great deal, meet many people including name and semi name celebrities, swap stories with other entertainers, and gain genuine pleasure from their music. There are many dis advantagei, the constant moving, secomd class hotels, cold, drafty dressing-rooms,- late hours, and long days spent driving and sit ting in train stations; but it all seems worth while somehow. As Don says about show business, "It's the hardest business in the world because you always have to give the public what it wants." But then he added, "But it's a lot of fun." The Last Chorus Big Spring dance tonight in the Russell House Cafeteria with Woody Woodward and his Or chestra furnishing the music. The whole show is under the direction of the Student Union Committee and they promise a big time for all. The University Band will give its annual Spring concert next Friday evening at Drayton Hall. It will be the most important concert of the semester for the Band and should prove very en tertaining for all comers. Mr. Pat Garnett will lead in a pro gram of marches, overtures, and concert favorites. ATTENTIOli 6 Booc SAU arolina Plans Travel Abroad By Carole Babb -She "landed on that pavement in front of Maxey" 11 years ago. Since that time Mrs. Robert E. Wilson has been hostess in al most every girls' dormitory at Carolina. Before Mrs. Wilson became the mother to 250 Sims girls she was mother to three of her own children, all graduates of Carolina. Although born in Sumter she claims Columbia as her alternate home. She studied at the Col lege for Women in Columbia and majored in voice at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia and was a member of Alpha )elta Pi sorority. Busy Sewing Machine "Bridge, church work, pict ure shows and fixing the girls' dresses is about all that's left for old ladies," laughs Mrs. Wil son. She is an active member of "Dr. Poag's Church," Shan don Presbyterian. In her living room on second floor of Sims Mrs. Wilson has a sewing ma chine that has seen few idle days in the past 11 years. Mrs. Wil son and that sewing machine have worked on every dress style from the Gibson girl type that came after World War 11 -to the sack dress of today. Many a skirt seam has been split by the pointed scissors that she "just couldn't do without." And many are the outfits for the grandchildren and clothes for their dolls that have been Wilson originals. A great deal of her sewing is done by hand in the office of Sims because as she says, "You've got to keel) up with the young people." Talking and Bridge There is no better way to keep up with the young people than to sit in the office of Sims and talk with the girls who are sign ing out or signing in; unless its talking with them over a bridge table. This housemother has probably played bridge with more co-eds and their boyfriends than any one on this campus. She loVes good jewelry, the theatre and "needles that are easy to thread." In Mar. 1947 Mrs. Wilson had passage booked to Australia when former Dean of Wonen, Arney R. Childs cdled her to come as a hostess. It was the first job she ever held and, "the only one I wvould ever want." Sailing for London When this semester ends Mrs. Wilson is leaving Carolina and sailing to London to visit her daughter, Mrs. C. A. Cookson previously in the Diplomatic Service of the State Department as Vice Consul in Australia, India and Paris. Her home upon retiring will be in Barnwvell, S. C. wvhere five grandchildren wvill keep her just about as busy as her 250 Sims girls.
