The Atlantic Coast Conference battle will be televised on regional basis at 2 p.m. EST. North Caro lina will go into the game a slight favorite with the Gamecocks look ing for their first conference win of the season. Coach Jim Tatum of the North Carolinians will be looking to avenge the defeat handed him last year by youthful South Carolina coach, Warren Giese. Tatum was Giese's boss at Maryland a couple of seasons ago. Coach Giese, experiencing some what the same disaster Tatum saw last year in having a number of his players injured or out with various viruses, has won three games this season, while losing three conference battles. Tar Heels Move Up At the beginning of the season, - Coach Jim Tatum said "the only way the Tar Heels of 1957 can go is up," and they have been doing just that. Although they have lost three games, the Tar Heels have played some of the top teams in the nation. Tatum's team has lost to Ls potent N. C. State, Maryland and Tennessee, while beating Clem is son, a highly favored Navy eleven, Miami's Hurricane and . Wake Forest. Lis South Carolina, who has lost to 1 Duke, Clemson and Maryland, has oecn laid low at the present time by another opponent . . . one who a appears to be tougher than any of the opposition on the football field. Old man flu has sidelined s 14 of the Gamecocks during the is recent practices and it was not ed known at press time how many d, would be able to make the trip to rg Chapel Hill. to ch Flu Hits Birds "I Four of the Gamecocks, Dwight w Keith, Sam Vickers, Corky Gaines he and Eddie Beall missed the Mary us land game, and tackles Bill Jerry all and Ed Pitts, end Buddy Nidiffer, center Lawton Rogers and fullback John Saunders are all on the ailing list. On the injured side of the ledger are Bobby Bunch, who is out for the season as is John D)orsett, the alternate unit half back. Bobby Barrett, who in jured his wrist in the Duke en counter, has been participating in practice sessions and was in the game against Maryland for one play. There is a possibility he will be in the line-up at some time during the game tomorrow. Steve Satterfield, the sophomore quarterback from Greer, was fi nally put into action last Saturday as he threw two passes and ran the ball once. Up until the Terp game, Satterfield was being listed as a bohunk, but Giese finally decided to use him. Thus, he will he a junior in eligibility next year. The South Carolina-North Caro lina battles date back to 1903 when the Gamecocks took a 17-0 pound ing from the Tar Heels. They lost the next nine games to North Carolina except in 1912 and 1921 when the games ended in a tie. Since World War II, the Game cocks have two victories against seven losses in the series. The all time record stands at six wins for the Gamecocks, 22 victorIes for the Tar Heels and four tie games. Last year Carolina shut out the North Carolinians, 14-0, at Caro lina Stadium.
