Spring Large Crowd Expected For Game Tomorrow. night in Carolina Stadium, football hopefuls of USC will show their wares in the annual intra-squad spring football game. Kick-off time is set for 8 P. M. . and according to the great competi tive spirit shown for the entire twenty practice sessions, the game should prove to be a crowd pleaser. According to head coach Warren Giese, spirit has been the highest of any place he has ever been. He also stated that fan interest has really surprised him and a very large crowd is in the making for the game. The squad has been divided into two units, the "Reds" and the "Whites." The "Red" team will probably be the home club but the strength has been divided equally and both teams should put on quite a battle. According to many observers, the players to watch are Frank Des tino, elusive halfback who has been making quite a name for himself during spring practice. K i n g Dixon, Alex Hawkins, Carroll Mc Clain, and Johnny Stallings should provide much fireworks from their halfback position. Mackie' Prickett, Sam Vickers, and Bobby Bunch will go fr9m the quarterback slot with Bob Barrett, Don Johnson and Dan South pro viding the power running. Tony Byers and Sam DeLucca will be the tackles to watch w i t h Tony Gialenios and Dwight Keith waging a battle for the center position. Steady Bill Floyd may have his best year in 1956 and will show tomorrow night why he has been running on the first unit all during spring practice. Other guards who will see plenty of action will be Nelson Weston, Jimmy Merck, Don O'Hara, and Bill Yenco. Coach Giese and his entire staff have been very pleased with the progress shown this spring and they believe the fans will be well satisfied with the performance of the boys tomorrow night. Intramural Action Hot ('lose Games Hot rivalry and close contests featured the final regular season basketball games during the past week. March 27. ,Grid Birds Tn In Track The USC track team opened its 1956 season this past Tuesday with an impressive 74 to 56 victory over PC at Fort Jackson's field. There were some good times turned in considering the cold, windy day. Johnson of PC ran a 9.9 100-yard dash which was the top event of the day. Allen Inabinet and Gene Berry with 10 points apiece led the scoring for Carolina, while Wyatt Aiken had 11 points for the losing PC team. There was a good turnout for this meet last Tuesday, but the boys would like to see even a larger one for the meet next Monday when they meet the powerful Duke team. This ACC track event will feature one of the fastest men in the United States today when Dave Sime runs the dashes for I)uke. Two weeks ago Sime tied the world's record in the 60-yard dash. This should really prove to be a real battle for the Gamecocks. Crying Towel for Rex South Carolina's wailing wall did heavy duty during the 1939 football season as the Gamecocks' '.Old Man Jinx" hit his custom ary stride after a year's layoff. It was the same old story for a Carolina coach. During the spring season "Twinkletoes" Al Grygo, he Gamecocks sterling broken field runner, was declared in eligible for varsity competition in the fall, and big Alex Urban who was the star of the line was also dropped because of scholastic difficulties. Together with these two serious losses,' Rex Enright lost by graduation his All-South ern end and captain, Larry Craig. Football fans began to realize how serious was this loss when Larry made the first string on- the na tional professional Green Bay Packer eleven. (Garnet & Black, 1940) LAUNDRY EMS! Night Until P.M.
