ALPHA DELTA PI outgoing offic vice-president, and Jane Rutland, urer; Gay Arthur, rush chairman, ai annual formal dance tonight at the I wionz a4 By Carolyn McClung We've talked a lot about spring being on the way, but we feel that the first of March is spring's call ing card. Birds are back, leaves are waking up from winter's slum ber, flowers are blooming, and the tunes are light and catchy as spring should be. We'll try to give you a brief coverage of the leading fashion fads including charming prints, dancing polka dots, flower sprigged things, and the coat (tress duo-ensembles. Tops on the fashion parade for spring are the colorful cotton print dresses. Not the usual cot ton but fine, silky cotton surah, trimmed perhaps with classic or gandy collar and cuffs, and, of course if the skirt is full, lots of full petticoats or one stiff crinoline to give a bell-like effect. Add a finishing touch of a velvet ribbon sash, and you'll be ready to step out. Polka dots will dance all over a full skirt of unpressed box pleats with tight fitting bodice and scoopedi out neck. Ensembles make a smart spring costume. A sheath dress worn under a duster lined in material matching the dress is high on the list. Button the duster all the way down, belt it, and wear it as ai different dress. Dusters may be long, short or three-quarter sleeved. Black and white is definitely a goodl color combination this spring. The one compliments the other, and together they look so fresh and new. Leaf laden, flower decked, color bright dresses will lie found in silk shantung, and rayon and wool challis. Necks are rounded, squared off in front and back, as well as v-necked. The light touch refers to the oh so-very-pale colors found in suits with matching accessories. Acces sories may be pastel and light or strike a gay mood by being con trastingly bold and bright. Wear an armful of bangle bracelets. So that they won't be too heavy, buy them in plastic. A colorful raffia necklace will add color to a simple dress or sweater. Gloves will be short and petite in pastel colors or immaculate white. Sports clothes strike a new note in ihaki-coloredl denim or cotton poplin. You will have a full choice between shorts, Bermuda shorts, pedal pushers, toreador pants, or slacks. Many of the corresponding shirts are worn on the outside belted. The four prevailing silhouettes in suits are the molded look, achieved with fitted jacket and pleated skirt; the boxy look, with loose jacket and straight skirt; the princess look, with high waist line and full skirt; and the slim look, involving a cross between fitted and boxy jacket and a very slim skirt. The most popular shoe seems to be the patent leather, calf or kid pump with a low tnaere heel. era are, top row, left to right, Harrit -ecording secretary.
