This 51st meeting of the two schools was the usual colorful event with all the trimmings and developed into one of the better Carolina-Clemson games seen in the past few years. The Gamecoclks entered this con test a two to three touchdown favorite, but in the early stages o"the game it was not (uite so apparent on the field. Carolina supporters were not long inm being disappointed when Gene Wilson took a -Clemson punt in his own territory and galloped easily behind good blocking into the end zone. However, at clipping penalty nullified the play and the Gamecocks were not only denied the first touchdown of the after noon, but also drew a stinging 15-yard penalty. After this run by Wilson was called back, spectators sat back and watched both teams seesaw for 27 minutes. Both teams seemed to show signis of taking the initia tive Ihiat would have resulted in eventual victory, but Carolina was the team that finally (lid it... with less thana three minutes left in the half. Quart erbmack .Johnnmy Gramalinzg a.nd Clyde Bennett on a 45-yard scoring p)lay' and1 the Gamecocks had exploded for a 7-0 lead. Ben nett had gotten behind two Clem son defenders and hauled in the first tally of the game. Clemson players aind supporters were slightly disheartened wvhen the Tigers marched two successive t.imes within the Gamecock five yard line and fumbled both times. As far as Clemsonites atre con gyned both fumbles were de ba'table as they claim the fumbles came~ after the wvhistle had blown. Carolina's last touchdowvn was . engineeredl by Haroldl Lewis, junior ;uarterback from Aynor. Hie faked to both his halfbacks and paitched a perfect strike to sophomore end Joe Silas in the end zone. Silas was in the far corner comp)letely apart from any Clemson deC fender. Clemson's lone score came ini the last quarter on a pass to end Scot Jackson in the end zone. It would be hard to single out specific ball players in this all-im porEnt game. However, sonme maen that heretofore have not gained quite as much recognition did pro dluce much of the Gamecock power. Mike Casky, the elusive sopho more from Bennettsville p)layedl one of the bet ter ballI games on the fi.eld. lie ret urned a Clemson punt from his owvn one-yardl line deep into Clemson territory, atnd would have possibly gone aill the way except for a missed key block on the only man between him and the goal. Harold Lewvis, quarterback, also turned in an impressive per formiance. Registration Week Registration for rush week will b)e held Thuarsday, Novembaer 5 RegIstration will be in the Post Office. The hard-charging Cub line kept the Biddies bottled up throughout most of the game and a collection of wild-running backs constantly ripped the Biddie line to pieces. An effective passing game gave variety to the visitors' attack. Cub Fullback Frank Griffith n paced the Clemson attack, scoring e three tines and having a fourth e ''D called back. He was ably sup e ported by halfbacks Joel Wells, Jim Coleman, Jack Cook, and Full back Bob Spooner who were the other leaders in a ground attack that netted 254 yards. Quarterbacks Charlie Bussey and Larry Frick completed eight of 14 passes for 132 yards. The Biddies picked up but 121 yards rushing with Halfback Ralph "Blackie" Fasanu gaining 49 in tmne attempts. Fullback Jim Kaplinski was second with 32 in five carries. - Mackie Prickett and Stan Goleski each gained 12 yards in a y single run and nobody else gained - over 10 yards. The passing attack was pitiful with only one com d)letion in four throws for five yards and Clenmson, intercepted twice. End ick Ericsont was impres sive for the Biddies as he broke dthrough several times to drop SClemson runners for losses. Guard SCorky Gaines played another steady game in the middle of the 13line. Halfbacks Ron Jacobs and Dick s Bartulski andl End Billy Rivers all did some fine punting for the . Bddies. The Biddies have now won one y and lost one. They defeated Fur man's Little Wind 19-13 in their d opener. t. t.. y A SATISFIED d 1317 Sumi iJUST 2 BLOCK There's somtiIng new int LAUNDRY AND CLEANERS n at 1415 Ge'rvals!
