I just this minute thought of a very appro priate record-"Tiger Rag," by Les Paul and Mary Ford. Shall we all take the free advice and "hold that tiger" down on his own one yard line. This week I'm going to mention a few of the fine records made by a girl who is everyone's favorite, Doris Day. One of her most popu lar records, "It's Magic," was in troduced in one of her first movies, "Romance on the High Seas." Since that time Doris has released many good records, "Bewitched" and "You're My Thrill," both avail able on a Columbia Long Playing record, along with six other great songs; "Lullabye of Broadway" in troduced in the movie by the same name; two new records, "My Love and Devotion" and "When I Fall In Love" are popular at Martin Roberts. Did you know that a "Boogie Boat" is: "A red plant, dug by musicians, used in preparing eight to-the-borscht? (ha! ha!) Just in case you didn't know, "Cool" is a cigarette smoked by penguins and musicians. Another great singing star is Sarah Vaughan, picked by "Down Beat" as top female singer of 1951. She has a wonderful album of old songs, released by MGM, including "Body and Soul," "You're Not The Kind Of A Boy," and "I've Got A Crush On You." Some of her good singles are "Vanity," backed by "My Reverie," and "After Hours," and a very recent record. "Say You'll Wait For Me" with "My Tormented Heart" on the flip side. After you've listened to this senti mental tune it's hard to believe that Sarah began her singing career as a bop singer. If you are planning to go shop ping for some good instrumentals, here are some that I think are tops -"Woodchoppers' Ball," by Woody Rerman, "Tenderly," a trumpet solo by Charlie Spivak, and "The Brave Bulls," by Harry James, and f you like guitars, "Lover," by Les Paul. For you hill-billies (don't hide, we know who you are!) there are some good records . . ..Old ones: "Tie Me To Your Apron Strings Again" backed by "There's Been a Change in Me," by Eddy Arnold, "Love Sick Blues" by Hank Wil liams . . . New ones: Those hams Df hill-billy music Homer and Jethro have succeeded in ruining "That Lil Ole Kiss of Fire" and "I'm Yourn." In parting I'll tell you a good way to spend an amusing after noon . . . listen to "Blues in Bur lesque" by Stan Kenton. It's dif ferent??? See you next week. He had hot dates with sweet Marie, His date with Peg was hotter But after dating Molly They picked him up with a blotter. WH-ATTA CANDIDATE! A OUR WHA~ <t" SILVER- CAMI TONGUED N 55ORATOR.!
