Two PT Courses Offered During '52 Summer School The Physical Education depart ment will offer non-professional physical training courses during summer school for the first time S this year, J. D. Grugan of the Physical Education department an nounced last week. A course in handball and bad minton will be offered as PT-2 and will be taught by Mr. Grugan. An elementary swimming class will be taught by J. W. Ratliff as PT-3. These two courses will be offered as one credit courses and can be used as part of the four credits re quired for men before graduation. The report, prepared by II man of athletics, and Miss Ali4 office, shows that of 564 atl the university from 1935-36 67.19 per cent, were awarded very favorably with the grac dlents entering college. Another significant feature of -the report is the varied studies en tered into by the athletes. Only 14.7 per cent of the lettermen who were graduated majored in physi cal education, while 41.42 per cent obtained degrees in arts and sciences, and 23.74 per cent in business administration. -Another 8.4 per cent of the ath letes received diplomas in engi hneering, and 3.43 per cent went on to earn law degtees. Trhe report covered a total of 637 lettermen, 73 of whom were still in school at the time of the sur _vey. Of that number 134 dropped out of school for various reasons, including the many men sent here by the navy in World War II and later withdrawn for active duty. Another 61 of the athletes trans ferred to other dolleges. The survey was made at the re quest of President Norman M. Smith of the university for the pur pose of giving the faculty an ac curate picture of the status of athletes in our colleges today. Dr. Penney described the results as highly satisfactory.
