It would take the memory of an elephant plus a little imagination to remember the time Carolina had an un defeated team in any sport. Tonight the USC boxers have a chance to wind up their season with an unbeaten mark. Only a draw with Miami mars an unblemished slate. LSU, the team that stands in the way of the unbeaten season, has probably the finest team that the Gamecocks will meet all season. They are unbeaten in regular season, too. They beat Miami in their opening bout of the season, 5/2-3% and also have won over Army's Cadets. Their only loss was sus tained in the Sugar Bowl tourney against Wisconsin. LSU put the snag in an all-winning season last year by bouncing the Birds, 6-2. Helping them out was Danny Orsak who decisioned Carolina's Emmett Gurney. Gurney got his revenge later by eliminating Orsak from the Southern In vitational and NCAA tournaments. Both these fighters are back and should provide the most interesting fight of the night. Chuck Spann draws what appears to be the toughest assignment of all as he takes on Blackie Howell in the unlimited division. Span, fighting over his weight, will be against the SIBT winner and NCAA finalist. A new face for Carolina will be 112-pound Johnny Grace who is making his first start. He meets W. J. George of LSU. The probable lineups: 112 pounds: Johnny Grace (USC) vs. W. J. George (LSU). 125 pounds: Allen George (USC) vs. Joe Thornton (LSU). 132 pounds: Pinckney Watson (USC) vs. Bobby Jackson (LSU). 139 pounds: Chuck Davis (USC) vs. Calvin Clary (LSU). 147 pounds: Emmett Gurney (USC) vs. Danny Orsak (LSU). 156 pounds: Don Fortner (USC) vs. Gordon Peresich (LSU). 165 pounds: Howard Collins (USC) vs. Ron Schulingcamp (LSU). 178 pounds: Jack Cassidy (USC) vs. George Payton (LSU). Unlimited: Chuck Spann (USC) vs. Blackie Howell (LSU). JUST CHECKIN' . .. Here's the final report on Gamecock basketball for the '51-'52 season, released this week by Don Barton, publicity chief.
