NORMA BERGMAN, Soeiety Editor Noelle Kennedy June Preenel cQ3e 4 on eef . . a spoke a week . . By NOELLE KENNEDY May I express my sincere thanks to the Pi Kap's and the PI K A's for their thoughtfulness in my recent bereave ment of news? I'm going to, anyhow - THANK YOU from the bottom of my typewriter ! The following Pi Kappa Phi's plowed their way up to Clemson for the Erskine Hawkins Dance: BURT BEN NETT, HANK FULMER, LANNY SHAY, CLAYTON Mc MANNAWAY, HARRY BOLYN, DON ROBERTSON, and BUBBER BRONSON. Pi K A has a new man in their ranks. He be BOB SILLS, a transfer student from the University of-Chattanooga, re cently arrived in Columbia by Choo-Choo. Spanish 21 Class welcomes back PAT EX-KEYS, who married LIGHTSEY MURRAY, Pi Kappa Phi, on Saturday. BEAKY -COLEMAN, Pi K A, was voted the most out standing pledge for the Fall Semester. The University Boxing Team brought their dates to a party following the Matches (Well lit?) last Thursday night. CHRIS and SARAH HITUPOLUS were the hosts, and the Miami Team with the green and orange outfits were invited, but they had to redescend on an early Choo-Choo. Pi Kappa Phi's have two new active transfers in the personages of HARRY WALDROP and CHUCK FICKEN. Pi K A's JIM SMITH (any relation to JOE?) and BILLY NORMAN ascended to Chattanooga (That place must have a monopoly on the local Chamber of Commerce ...) for an interview with the Du Pont Corporation. The Delta Sig's had a fabulous time at their first "Social 3 night" affair at the Market (Black?) Restaurant. They ate, and hope to do the same next month, when they're going to a have a Ladies' Night.... There'll never be a food shortage S at that rate! Speaking of food and other such things to eat, the Pi K ( A's had a stag for supper - I mean, they had a stag supper (excuse me . ..) at the Flamingo (must be a rival bird, you Gamecock Fans . ..) Club on Wednesday night. . . . At that rate, there WILL be a food shortage. C DOODLES MUNN and RUSSELL STOKES spent the weekend at Myrtle Beach. They're Pi Kappa Phi's. The Pi K A's had an informal party-dance at the Woman's f Club on Saturday night. . . . All of which reminds me . . . I hope that as much fun was had at the 'Y' dance following L the basketball game Monday night, because I've heard com planatory reports of late, at the deplorable lack of girls at a these affairs. . .. h h Pi Kappa Phi's have two new pledges, BUBBER BRON SON and KENNY BOSWELL, who is preparing a sequel to his "Life of Johnson"??? Pi Kappa Alpha's ROY THORNTON and BILLY NOR MAN plan to attend the Mardis Gras in New Orleans on the 24th. And now for our Department of Labyrinthine Coils of1 Abstract Superfluity: We hear by the wine-vine, alias, BOBBY DRAWDY that because of the cold weather, frost, and intermittent hail storms (the result of Meteorological processes), the beautiful city of Summerville, S. C., is suf-i fering from a postponement of its flower season. . .. There will be no budding idiots this year either, I see. NUDGE YAGER was initiated last Thursday night into KA. He and JOHNNY THORNE took the hint and went1 West Tuesday night, towards the Navy and San Diego. Other brothers entering the service include: WILLIAM BEELER, PAUL HEMPHILL, and BILLY HAY. NANCY MITCHELL, Tri Delt, spent last weekend at a Davidson dance . . . all of it? Phi Kap's entertained everyone who had a fine time at their annual Valentine's party last Saturday night, at the Jefferson Hotel. Phi Sig's had a weiner roast last Thursday night at the Cayee Woman's Club . .. inside or outside ? And now for the benefit of the above organization, your "little" friend (fiend ?), J. P. will write this "Wheel of For tuune" next week. And for the benefit of A LL - don't be afraid to send in your news, too. Box 79 It is. The road to righteousness is the straight and narrow. Too bad that so many of us stagger. answer the call Zad in the.-Ad0 By SUZANNE HYER A visit to Columbia stores shows that it is time for that biannual jaunt downtown to solve the eter nal problem of "what to wear." For those who like to start off Spring in plaids there are many different ones - predominantly dark blues and greens-accented with white pique collars and cuffs. The styles from which to choose are virtually limitless. Grand mother never had it like this! To offset that evening coolness in March and April there are short sleeved, nylon cardigans which are dyed to match the dresses they come with. These outfits can be bought in pastel shades-lavender, mint green, baby blue, pale pink, and a sunny yellow. For the economy-minded, and who isn't these days ?-there is a wide assortment of sleeveless blouses in the "under three dollars" price range. These come in many styles and colors and may be bought on Belk's first floor. P. S. They wash like a dream. Easter note: This is really the time to buy that Spring suit you've had a yen for for so long. There is more variety than ever before in this season's models. Most of them are crease-resistant and wrinkle-shed, a great help in a busy college life. For square dances or an evening on the town, the quilted skirt is your best bet. Combine it with a sleeveless blouse and a pair of Capezios and you're ready to go. Speaking of snues, the Ked Com pany-remember your old canvas topped tennis shoes ?-has come up with the answer to a maiden's dream. Their Espadrilles are the i next-best thing to going bare footed. The color range is red, navy, black, and green, and they I come with two- pairs of laces in i contrasting colors. The problem has been solved for I those who like to sew, also. Among c the new mateials i a iloth of heavy chintz-like quality, which is t patterned in oriental designs with - various colored and gold paints. It is both washable, the first require ment, and inexpensive, selling for under a dollar a yard. Nylon in various weaves can be bought, and ;here is a new wonder material vhich is a combination of nylon c md orlon, the new thread which . ias mostly been used in men's suits up till now. Novelty weaves ire popular, and one of my favor ites is the one woven to resemble tucks. This fabric comes in many pastel and dark shades and is my number one nomination for sum mer sewing. Interested persons should vntact Chuck Davidson for fur her information. he cottons practically make them elves. Nylon is a little harder to vork with and the chintz-like abric I mentioned hardest of all, >ut even it only requires extra care n basting, and is really not diffi uIt at all.
