It seems like exams and nervous breakdowns are racing each other neck and neck. MR. K. L. F. DeGRAVELINES has a problem as Student Activities Director ... he needs a nice efficient secretary ... and, as anyone knows, a hard-working secretary is as rare as hen's teeth. Anyone knowing of such a human being please inform Mr. DeGravelines ... thank you! ELISE HAM of Monroe, N. C. was pinned by RONNIE SKENES, Sigma Chi. The Phi Sigs enjoyed a New Year's Eve Party at the El Roco Club following the USC-Penn Basketball game . . doesn't that game rate capital letters? . . . Honored guests were Phi Sig basketball players, DWANE MORRISON, FRANK WRIGHT, JACK WISE, and their dates. The Phi Sigma Kappa will also have a party on Feb. 1, 1952 at the Maxcy Gregg Woman's Club. GENNY STEVENSON, Tri-Delt, received a beautiful engagement ring from FRED FELDER from Charleston last week. FELECIA HOWELL, Tri-Delt Alum, also received a ring from BEAU MORRISON from Charleston. Tri-Delts KATHERINE STONE and LAWSON YATES spent last weekend in Charleston. TOBY WARD, Phi Sig, from Myrtle Beach has informed this column that he will accept a position (generous, isn't he?) with the United States Navy upun graduation in Feb ruary. Another Phi Sig, PHIL SAWYER, commuted to Winthrop again last weekend. Among the large Carolina delegation attending the Fur man game were Lambda Chi's DEVANT PURVIS, AUSTIN LATIMER, PAUL CUNNINGHAM, JUG SAWYER, FRANK MALONE and MERVIN DAVE. RED HOLLIS gave KATIE BRUNSON a shining diamond for Xmas. Wedding date is in Feb. CHIC MARTIN, KD, was pinned by LOCK McLENDON, Sigma Nu, during Christmas Holidays. Looks like the KD's have had a busy time . .. MACK HALFORD entertained in honor of ANN READY who will marry MARION SMITH of Clemson on January 24 . . . Then the KD's traveled to Johnson Saturday afternoon for a bridge luncheon. Also on the agenda is a Between-Semesters Houseparty at Ocean Drive Beach to take place after the horror of exam week wears off. BILL NOVIT and IZZY (I love Erskine Caldwell!) LOURIE, both Phi Eps, are going to celebrate the passing of their exams (optimists, aren't they ?) in New York City between semesters. That reminds me of some famous words of Dr. Turney-High: "It pays to be honest for there are too many stool pigeons in the world," unquote. Makes you think, it does! On the subject of old memories ..,. the Kappa Delta's have retired two cups in the past two years. The first wvas the Sigma Chi Derby Cup in 1950, the second was the scholarship cup which they received for obtaining a 3.183 average for the spring 1951 term. It is being engraved now. Ah, back to the Phi Sig salt mines where I will uncover some more news-HUGH BOND, CHUCK DAVIDSON, SAMMY HARDNER, some more Phi Sigs, followed the basketball team and enjoyed the games at Charlotte, Green ville, and Athens. There to take in all the sights were DWANE MORRISON, FRANK WRIGHT, and JACK WISE . .. too bad we all didn't have green or black Cadillacs... then we could have been there to cheer the team on. (Who knows? Maybe after a little of my cheering they would have begged for peace!) (Little flash . .. does anyone out there in the dim dark ways of the world have anything they want sent in to the columx ? NO . .. we do not accept rotten fish !! I mean news !) Good luck on those xams I Talley Elected President Phi Sig Tommy Talley of Atlanta, Ga., will lead the Phi Sigs during the spring semester, Chuck Davidson, retiring president, announced. C. rep.; and Jimmy Jordan, social chairman. Sigma Chi Holds Spring Elections Dick Timms of Greenville will serve as president of Sigma Chi during the spring semester. Other officers include Ronnie Skenes, vice-president; Sam Hil born, recording secretary; Ed Jor dan, treasurer; Bob Wilkins, cor responding secretary; Watson Murphy, historian; and Henry Watts, assoc. editor. Also, Carl Schwartz, athletic rep.; Bill Littlejohn, I. F. C. rep.; Doc Rast, pledgemaster; Dick Polen, derby chairman; Carl Schwartz, social chairman; and Dick Robinson, house manager. Newton Named Pi Kappa Alpha Spring President Pi Kappa Alpha officers for the spring semester are Gary Newton, president; Frank Huggins, vice president; Bruce Elliot, secretary; Dave Mauldin, house manager; Herb Freeman, pledge masier; and Bill Garnett, alumni secretary. Kappa Sig Elects Ingram President Joe Ingram of Cheraw was elected president of Kappa Sigma social fraternity. Ingram is a stu dent in the school of law. Louis Reames was elected vice president; Jimmy Holliday, secre tary; Harold Holliday, treasurer; and Eugene McElveen, grand master of ceremonies.
