By MURRAY SEAMAN The old cstal ball was a little Agked up last week when I made my predictions. With upsets and ah admitted bad pick we managed to scrape through the first week sporting a 70% accurate card, while not Phi Beta Kappa, still passing for the course. Supposedly mighty Kentucky, Miami and Alabama were three of my choices to go down via the upset route. These plus Navy, NC State, and North Carolina made up the six games missed. Of course, as is to be expected, I was ripped to pieces by Monday morning quarterbacks. They all had Georgia, Mississippi, Wake Forest and every other team that I missed. This week the game of the day should be Michigan State and Ohio State. The Spartans are ranked first in the nation by the AP and Ohio State's Buckeyes occupy the seventh spot. Also we look for Ken tucky to finally come to life. But before the smog descends too thick, let's take a quick look into the crystal for tomorrow's gaines. Clemson over NC State - We have to stick with the Tigers. Too much Hair for State to see through. Citadel over Davidson-A close one for the soldiers. Alabama over Vanderbilt-The Tide to bound back from last week's loss, but look out for the arm of Wade. Tennessee over Duke-Too much manpower for the Blue Devils to handle. Maryland over G. Washington The Terps are the power of the conference. Kentucky over Georgia Tech They're due to explode soon. Georgia over Miss. State-Too much all around ability. Princeton over Navy - The Tigers possibly are the best in the East. Texas over North Carolina - Strictly by a toss of a coin. Virginia over Virginia Tech - The Cavaliers have too much class. William & Mary over VMI-One of the more routine games of the day. Michigan State over Ohio State -Vic Janowics doesn't have enough help to pull this one out. Mississippi over Boston College -Much confidence was gained by their win over Kentucky. Miami over Florida State-The Hurricanes should breeze right through this one. California over Minnesota-The Golden Bears ranked number 2. Minnesota lacks the experience. Oklahoma over Texas A&M Another case of a one-man gang being beaten by overall strength. Notre -Dame over Detroit-The Irish to score at will. Illinois over Wisconsin - The Illini rated one of the best in the toughest league in the country. Penn State over Villanova-An other case of a coin toss. Sportsquiz There were no answers to last week's Sportquiz and we therefore did not award any tickets. Since last week's was evidently difficult, we will make this one fairly simple. During the course of football his tory many players have acquired a nickname that stuck with them during. their gridiron career. We have three nicknames which we want identified. In all there are eleven satntc rcprcsented and they are: South Carolina, New York, Georgia, New Jersey, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois West Virginia North Carolina, Florida and Penn sylvania. Individually there are 20 from South Carolina, two from New York, six from Georgia, two from New Jersey, two from Ohio, three from Indiana, three from Illinois, two from West Virginia, seven from North Carolina, three from Florida and two from Pennsylvania. LADY Fraternity With Sig By MIKE LOVEJOY The 1951 Intramural Sports pro gram officially got under way this past Monday with ~ two games played in each of the Fraternity Leagues. In League No. 1 Sigma Chi bested Sigma Alpha Epsilon by 15-8 and 15-13 counts. This game was followed by the Kappa Alpha Kappa Sigma contest which found the former coming out on top, twice, 15-9 and 17-15. Over in League No: 2 Sigma Nu made short order of Lambda Chi, even though the former set Sigma Nu back 15-11 in the second game, by whipping them 11-0 and 15-5 in the first and third games, respec tively. This was followed by the Phi Kappa Sigma's double victory over Alpha Tau Omega by margins of 15-9 and 17-15. Three games are played each week until each team has played the other once. Nine teams were finally dug up to make up one Independent League which is composed ef: Ten 29; Ten. 24%; Ten. 1 and 5; Ten. 9; Enright Praises Furman Backs Sutton, Horton "Sutton and Horton, two fine halfbacks of Furman, pose a defi nite threat to the University of South Carolina's grid squad Satur day," Coach Rex Enright stated Monday just before practice. "I will not make any predictions on the outcome but it should be an excit ing game. We made a lot of mis takes in The Citadel encounter and we are working on them this week. Bob "Moose" Kahle is injured and will not play Saturday. However, Center Larry Smith will be ready. There are numerous other minor injuries but I think we will be in pretty good shape on the whole." Both the Furman halfbacks are averaging better than five yards per carry in their first three games. Sutton returned a kick 93 yards in his first varsity game against PC.
