Lane Bonner, Jr., Alpha Tau Omega, pinned Elaine Stuben rauch of Columbia. THREE PHI KAPPA SIGMA brothers got themselves hooked. Jim Bennett is pinned to Barbara Drake; and Ernie Rodrique is pinned to Johnny Lewis. AND ... John Dowdle is ENGAGED to Virginia Sande. Sybil Patrick, Pi Beta Phi, got a beautiful diamond early Saturday morning from Julian Bolen. PHI SIGMA KAPPA AT A RECENT ELECTION chose Jay Quick of Drexel Hill, Pa., president to replace retiring President Nick Hamilton of Summerville. Also elected at that time was Tommy Talley of Atlanta to the vice-presidency. APRIL 23 KAPPA SIGMA initiated John Broom, Colum bia; Lucius Weatherford, Columbia; and Bill Rutledge. Bill Renfro, Paul Foster, and Gene Wilson were pledged. THE NATIONAL FIELD SECRETARY OF PHI KAPPA SIGMA, Jerry Walls, is now visiting the local chapter. PHI SIGMA KAPPA was honored last Tuesday with a visit from their national field secretary, Robert B. Nemeschy. PI KAPPA ALPHA HAD AS GUEST SPEAKER Monday night the Rev. L. W. Edwards, who is a member of the local chapter. Bill Rogers and Ida Mathis were headed for a big weekend at Myrtle Beach. Another Pi Kappa Alpha and date., Joe Douglas and Eleanor Ogburn, were seen at Savannah Beach. ALSO AT THE BEACH THIS WEEKEND were Phi Sigma Kappa members Howard Wall, Charlie Emmons, Toby Ward, Tommy Talley, Harry Mosely, and Chuck Davidson. NEW OFFICERS OF THE SIGMA NU PLEDGE CLASS are Wilbur Newman, president; Gene Evans, vice-president; and Charlie Wood, secretary. WITH COKES AND HOT DOGS (and various other re fresher courses) the men's Independent club staged a party Wednesday of last week. After half running and half falling down the cliff, next to the spillway on Broad River, everyone was glad to relax next to a roaring fire and enjoy being alive. The party, given in honor of new and prospective members, was ended by group singing. "Rock" Devane, Ronald Adams, Arthur Sloan, Glenn Grimes, and Mason Huggins were re cently voted into the organization. A RUSH SMOKER was held by Phi Sigma Kappa on Wed nesday evening of last week in their chapter room. Last week Phi Sig pledged Paul Beaty and Malcolm Rentz of Columbia and Robert Whitehead of Lake City. A group of Sigma Nu's and their dates gathered for a pic, nic at Smallwood Lake Saturday night. Betty Ruth Crapps is now wearing the Delta Zeta scholar ship ring, as the pledge with the highest average.. Betty Ortmann, Delta Zeta, gave a drop-in for Delta Zeta members and their dates Wednesday night of last week. Joan Fowler and "Moose" Kattle will tie the marital bow tomorrow in Charleston. Margaret Ellen Barker, Alpha Delta Pi, turned in a mag nificent performance Sunday afternoon with The Southern Symphony Orchestra. And Marcia Richards, Delta Zeta, handed in one of the finest senior piano recitals given this semester, and was honored afterward by her sorority sisters with a drop-in in the sorority room. Jane Dowe, Kappa Delta, went to Clearwater, Fla., this past weekend for the wedding of Bettie Moore, Kappa Delta alumna. Ann Goodwin, Kappa Delta, and Billy Thompson, SAE, and Nancy Gary, Kappa Delta, and Ed Royal, SAE, went to the beach this weekend. Anne Clarke, Kappa Delta, was vacationing in Clearwater, Fla., last week. Betty Frazer, P1 Beta Phi, is pinned to Tommy Grant, Kappa Alpha at Furman. Last year Berle did 16 consecutive hours, raising $1,100, 000 for the Runyon Fund. After seven years' absence Mar garet Sullivan has returned to the screen to play a woman of forti tude and high heroism in Colum bia's "No Sad Songs for Me."
