Did you know that the architect
- of many of the buildings on the
Carolina campus was also architect
for the Washington monument in
the nation's capital? Robert Mills
attained nationat recognition for
his leadership in the nineteenth
century revival of Greek architec

had Mills design the monument. r
Not only has the state forgotten I
that Mills was a great architect, d
but it has overlooked the fact that
he was ahead of his day in his d
architectural ideas. At the time
that he designed Maxcy monument,
he was commissioner of public v

When President Jackson ap- A

Washington monument. r
