'95 was a better year with tho e Birds getting a split. They woz their first game against Furmal by a 14-10 score. The spirit of th4 game was growing and the stu a dents o:' South Carolina Colleg - developed a great liking for "thim a rough game." The Gamecocks mel the Wofford Terriers for the firsi timel this year and were defeated 5 in a close 6-4 decision. 1 The fact that we won only one , game against two defeats in the third year of football at Carolins -is Justified today when we. note that that win was against the 3 Tigers from Clemson. The Birds were victorious in that first meet ing by a 12-6 tally but bowed to their other two opponents by close scores. '97 was a bad year Again. The season started with an 18-6 loss to Clemson and two other losses followed to complete the second and last unvictorious year. The a following year the Birds beat Bingham and then lost to Clemson and Davidson. Up until this time the Game cocks had played without a pilot but in '99 Irving 0. Hunt became the first Carolina coach. The Birds made a 2-3 record that year, Clem son being one of the victors.
