'7Wa4j0 }9ee . . . . a spoke a week . By JO ANNE DELLINGER Thanksgiving is over and the students are back at the ole grind. Over the holidays much went on. The. Tri-Delts really had a swell time. Alpha Lambda celebrated its 20th anniversary Tuesday night with a banquet in the English Room of the Columbia Hotel. The banquet was also held for Founder's Day. Many alumni attended. The program was by the pledges. Laura )owe, alum, is now Mrs. Joe Lumpkin. Susan McElveen, Ruth Stone and Helen Lee Moore were initiated. To celebrate, Helen entertained Betsy Blundon over the week-end in Charleston. Nell Cassedy couldn't tear herself away from Columbia and enjoyed a visit with Sally Stevens. Housepartying were Lucie Whites carver, Felicia Howell, Jane Simmons and Harriott Barnwell. One of Chi Omegas national officers, Miss Eleanor Neary, was visiting here on the 16th and 17th. Their room is buzz ing this week with their big winter formal which will be held tonight. Under the sign of Kappa Delta you can hear Pat. Young, Hazel Porter and Marilyn McCormack talking about their exciting week-end in Philadelphia where they saw Navy hold Army to a Cie. Helen Collum spent her Thanksgiving at Fort Lauderdale while her "sister" Frances Tuttle visited the University of Georgia. Last Wednesday night the ZTAs gave a tea dance for the campus in their room at Sims. Tommy Thornley played the music. De1t Tau's president. Shera Lee Ellison, flew up to the Penn-Cornell game. Carolyn Katz, Alpha Epsilon Phi, is sporting a third finger left hand attachment which she got for Thanksgiving. The Army-Navy game was well attended by Carolina co eds, but the men, too, were represented. Ed Rodgers con sidered his week-end well spent in Philadelphia. Lou Gantt, Pi Kappa Phi, and Mildred Derieux. went to Alexandria, Va., and then on to the Army-NavyN game. The Pi Kappa Phis are partying, partying, partying, with a dance Wednesday night for rushees at the Woman's Club. a fish fry for same at Brother Carroll's place near Lexing ton and planning for their big (lance and banquet in mid dle December. The Delta Zetas and their dates spent the holidays to gether at the beach. Ron Carey and Ken Masters of Lambda Chi Alpha also braved the cold to spend their holidays at Myrtle Beach. The Forest Lake Country Club was full of SA Es and "rushees" Saturday night along with their dates who were having one merry time. The party was held in honbr of the new rushees of the SAE fraternity. Everything was on the house as far as the rushees and their dates were con cerned, all they had to do was walk up to the bar and give their order and on the cuff it would go. The SAEs held a rush party at the VF'W home last Monday. Phi Kappa Sigma held a blue jean party at Heise's T1ues day night complete with skits, square dance. They held a smoker Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 6 in their newly decorated chapter rooms. New pledges are Hook Lawrence, Irwin Eleazer and Jack Truluck, J. B. Allen has given his heart and pin to Katherine Bowen. Sy Ameen, Bobby Swindiler and James White, alums, were visiting the campus for the "big game." Phi Sigma Kappa had an informal banquet at Harvey's Restaurant and a dance at the Jefferson Rathskeller on Wed nesday honoring the rushees. Phi Sigs had a smoker on Thursday afternoon for rushees debuting the newly deco rated chapter room. Phi Sigma Kappa has tentative plans for a dance which will deb'ut Tommy Thornley's orchestra and will be in honor of Phi Sig's new pledges. Conrad Haney, Phi Sig alumnus, from Lancaster is engaged tc Frances Doby of Lancaster. Jill Shuler, Winthrop, and Rose tHolley, Converse, attended the Wake Forest game with Bill Castles and Vic Johnson, Phi Sigs. Beta Gamma chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, Internationa Commerce Fraternity, recently initiated the following mem bers: Faust B. Boatwright, Edgefield; Robert D. Kenney, Aiken ; John E. Thomas, Myrtle Beach ; William S. Willis, Charleston; Arthur E. Flowers, Andrews; and Loy M. Greer, Spartanburg. Lambda Chi Alpha recently pledged Bob Carpenter. The Deeps, currently do ing an eight--week stand at swanky Manhattan Club Bagatelle, were honored by their selection to sing at the "Garden Party," in the il lustrious company of 'General Eisenhower and top Air Force brass. Performing with the boys was an all-star troupe, including Margaret O'Brien, Walter Pidgeon, Bob Hope and ex-Air Corps colonel Jimmy Stewart. Mrs. Osborne is a native of Aiken and lived in Columbia sev eral years previous to her resid enee in Cordele. She has had ex perience in hostess work at Florida State Teachers' college.
