Music Frat Tea Honors Department Delta Mu chapter of Delta Omi cron, national music fraternity, had a silver tea Tuesday afternoon for the members of the music de partment in honor of McDowell Week. Madame Baker played for the occasion. The fraternity pledged five new members on Thursday, November 4th. The new members are Fran ces Weeks of St. Matthews, Ger trude Johnston of Estill, Margaret Ellen Barker of Fairfax, Joanne Weaver of Columbia. At the first meeting of the pledges the following officers were elected: Sara Jane Benson, presi dent; Marilyn McCormac, vice president; Margaret Ellen Barker, secretary; Gertrude Johnston, treasurer; Frances Weeks, pub licity chairman, and Joanne Weav er, social chairman. Following the pledging cere mony the group went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Williamson where supper was served and an enjoyable evening spent. Delta Omicron is a national mu sic fraternity whch was organized here last April. Two meetings are held each month. One is a business meeting and the other, musical. Canteen, Features Thornley Band; Chimes Installed Toni Thronley and his band have volunteered to play every Monday at the sophomore "Y" canteen which is open every Monday from 8 to 10:30. Cards and tables are provided. The snack bar and ping pong room will he open. Chimes have been installed in the top of the chapel by the "Y." The chimes were played for the first time Sunday preceding ves. pers service. The chimes will be played every Sunday before the vespers pro gram by Tom Lunney. Twelve men Were captured and Marryin' Sam Needham carried out his task very ildmirably, performing his 50 cent wed dings for the "miserable Skonks" and his two dollar first class af fairs with extreme rapidity, punc tuating the ceremonies with swigs from a handy jug of kickapoo joy juice. After he had completed his mat rimonial tasks, Marryin' Sam ex tended everyone an invitation to attend the dance in the field house, where several contests were fea tured. Emmie Evans, dressed as Mammy Vokum, won a compact for the best dressed girl, and Carl Smith. impersonating Lil' Abner, Won a gold knife. Nancy Stewart an1d Genaro Iuerta won a steak slpper for weva-ring the best couple costumes. Judges were Mr. and Mrs. Workmaan, and Professors Yahj ian and Netuffer. * Other entertainment inacltuded siluare dancing, the Virginia lReel, and some jitterbugging Hill-billy style. Decorations at tme dance consist ed of four large wagon wheels around which were strewn logs, hay and "tarnips." Railing posts were covered with moss. Over $10,000 was spent on Wade lampton for women alone. Rooms vere redecorated tnd completely efIrnished with beds, dressers, ,hests, and mirrors. In the meii's dormitories a total f $12,17:3 was spent in a program o replace badly damaged furni ure. Also listed was $6,090.58 for ndernization of bathroon facili ies in Tenements I through 20. n 19404,-.17 a substantial sum was !xpended for this same purpose.
