The five foot ten inch 210-pound tackle can play any position on the team and he seems to play them all with equal ease and abil ity. Last spring when Len Ekim- C off and Mitchell Scott were in- t jured, he filled in at center. He ii also played guard and at the pres- I: ent time he's listed on the Caro- a lina roster as a tackle. The advent of spring prattice last spring found Dick working out in the new and unfamiliar position of end, where Enright had switched him in hopes of bolster ing the weakened Gamecockg flanks. Pleased with what he saw,, Enright decided to keep Fagan at right end. His lack of experience at playing end keeps Fagan from a starting berth, but he is develop ing speedily. Natatorium Roof Is Undergoing Needed Repairs The natatorium of the university will be closed for approximately three weeks, according to Dean John A. Chase of the administra tion. No other plan could be worked out, except to close the pool until repairs are completed, because the entire roof must be changed, he added. For some time now, the serious condition of the building has been known by the administra tion department, but recently the asbestos shingles have been falling into the pool. The constant col lection of condensation from the pool, because of lack of ventilators, decomposed the structure so that it must be temporarily closed. When the old roof was installed by the Works Progress Adminis tration in 1938, the administration lepartment pleaded for another t,pe of structure and for the in tllation of ventilators, but their pleas were in vain. Works Prog ress. Administration funds ran out before the ventilators were in Atalled The repairs are well under way iow, and it probably would have )een compleLed, but the heavy rains of late have hampered the work considerably. Carolina was also xth in passing defense and The Gamecocks have a slight edge over Penn State for total de fense. The Gamecocks took the lead through their brilliant defen sive game against Furman last Friday in Greenville when the Hurricane gained only 27 yards through Carolina's strong line. However, Carolina will get the supreme test Saturday. against the strong Tulane Green Wave at New Orleans, La., and critics are Dlaiming that Tulane, who defeat ed Alabama 21-7 and held Georgia Tech to a 13-7 game, may smash Carolina's impressive defensive record. Coach Rex Enright made no comment when he heard of his a team's achievement. He seemed very pleased over the squad's showing against Furman, but he was pessimistic over his chances %gainst Tulane.
