highest scorer on the Gamecock
basketball squad, including games
through Saturday night, with 203 he

Steve Trewhella, guard, was
second with 167 points, Al Adams,
center, was third with 164 points
and Cy Szakacsi was fourth with
158 points. In fifth place was Phil
Cantore, forward, with 146 points,
while Jimmy Slaughter's 132
points placed him sixth.

Team Captain
Fred Atkinson, junior from
Hartsville, was elected captain of
the 1948 Carolina tennis team at
a meeting of returning Gamecock
players Tuesday afternoon.
A tkinson did not play for Caro

season. He left school at the end

Al Adams, Gamecock center,
was chosen to the Associated
Press all-South Carolina team for
the second straight year. Charlie
Seay of Wofford, honorary cap
tain, and Bob Stewart of Furman,
were also repeaters from last year.
Rounding out the team were
Erskine's Les Davidson, leading
scorer in the state, and Leonard
Riddle of Clemson.
Carolina's Henry Martin and
Cy Szakacsi won berths on the
second team, while center Jimmy
Slaughter was placed on the third
team. Gaining honorable mention
were Steve Trewhella and Phil
Cantore.
Juniors Win Girls'
Intramural Title;
Beat Frosh 52-44
The junior class won the girl's
intramural basketball champion
ship by defeating the freshmen
52-44 Monday in the finals of the
WAA sponsored tournament. The
juniors had defeated the freshmen
47-31 in the first game of the se
ries Thursday.
Outstanding player of the eve
ning was Catherine Wallace, cap
tain of the juniors, who racked up
21 points to share scoring honors
with Jane Bailey of the freshmen.
Buist and Brown of the juniors
shot 16 and 11. points respectively,
while McLean and Steinberg of
the losers shot 12 and 11.
