Terp o Divisions raternity Bas] egin Season I By JOHN JAMES At a recent meeting with Joe rugan, instructor of physical ducation, the sports committee f the Inter-Fraternity Council ivided the 13 organizations into wo divisions for the coming intra ural basketball season. It was ecided that the fraternities would ot start their tourney until Feb uary 4. This will allow time for ractice and preparation of ex minations. The first division includes the ollowing: Phi Lambda, Kappa lp,ha, Sigma Nu, Phi Epsilon, appa Sigma, Lambda Chi and igma Alpha Epsilon. The second ivision will be composed of Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Chi, Alpha rau Omega, Phi Sigma Kappa, Phi Kappa Sigma and Pi Kappa Phi. For the past two months this ommittee, in collaboration with ,rugan, has been working on a uitable intramural handbook. 'his book will contain the pur ose, rules and regulations of ntramural athletics at the uni ersity. RY CLEANING VICE The Canteen nuab1 Jayvees Beat Olympia High; Meet Sunshine By HENRY WALKER Carolina's Junior Varsity bas ketball team broke A half-time tiel with Olympia High School's Redl Devils to win 87-22 ti a prelimi- I nary to the Carolina-Davidson game Saturday night. The Jayvees will be seeking an other win tonight at eight o'clock in the field house when they meet the Sunshine Cleaners of the City basketball league. The Olympia cagers were off to an early lead with their smooth floor play and, from all appear ances, seemed that they might win easily. The Jayvees, however, tightened. their defense, and withl the aid of accuracy from the floor, kfiotted the score 17-17 at the intermission. The Carolinians changed the complexion of the game entirely in the final period by holding the Devils to five points while scoring 20, and won going away. High scorers were Billy Glass of Olympia with 12 points, fol lowed by Joe Faress and Louie Krul of the Carolina team with 11 and 10 points respectively. Both Faress and Krul, along with Bud dy Sullivan and Red Kite, were outstanding for the Gamecocks, while Glass, Franklin Drafts and Fred Carter were offensive and defensive sparks in the Red Devil lineup. Have Good Record Thus far the Jayvees have de feated Columbia high 58-15, Dre her 65-38, University high 68-28, and have won several scrimmage games. They were to play the Capitol Cafe Cooners Tuesday night. (For story see page 8). Accuracy Improving The Gamecocks as a team shot 81 times and hit the basket 25 for an accuracy rating of 32 per cent. Carolina-made good ten of 15 attPmnts at the free throw line, an improvement over their overall season's average on foul goals. It was the fifth loss for Carolina as they fell victim to Georgia's eleventh consecutive win. The score was even at the half, 33-33, and only after some eight minutes of the second half did the Georgians begin to pull away.
